girt by sea 2009 cabernet

Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot is the second blend in the Voyager Estate portfolio. Approachable in its youth, it presents a soft, rounded mid-palate with a subtle, lightly-structured tanin profile. The perfect “Indian Summer” ripening conditions of 2009 resulted in a that displays excellent concentration of vibrant, rich red and black berry fruit with soft, silky tannins. Made to be enjoyed on release, this wine will also develop additional complexity over the short- to medium-term.

The Vintage Following a challenging spring growing period, summer and autumn provided some of the best weather ever experienced by the region. A classic “Indian Summer” resulted in warm, dry days with cool nights. These conditions are ideal for producing exceptional red as the fruit ripens slowly, allowing sufficient time for excellent tannin and flavour development. There were no heat spikes, which can negatively impact on ripening and fruit flavours. The 2009 vintage will go down as a classic for Cabernet Sauvignon from the Voyager Estate vineyards. Refined and concentrated fruit flavours of cassis and mulberry, combined with fine-grained and physiologically ripe tannins, have produced exceptional wines with longevity.

The Environment The 2009 Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot is bottled using ’Lean and Green’ light-weight bottles and packaged in locally-manufactured, 100% recycled cardboard boxes. Using packaging from sustainable sources is part of our comprehensive environmental program which has seen Voyager Estate recognised with EntWine Australia certification.
