    Pro Beach Brothers in Arms 20 digbeachvolleyball.com | 2020 #1 Brothers in Arms In the long lineage of notable sibling beach teams, teenagers Marcus and Miles Partain are up there with the best hen it comes to discussing the greatest brother combinations in beach volleyball history, much of the oxygen in the room gets sucked up by the Crabb brothers. And rightfully so. They keep adding to their resumes with significant honors – most recently, Taylor’s 4-Star FIVB tournament with Jake Gibb (November in Chetumal,W Mexico) and Trevor’s sublime triumph at the Manhattan Beach Open last August. But while Taylor and Trevor won a few NORCECAs playing together, they could never capture an AVP or FIVB title, which, in part, led them to seek different partners. The Crabbs are not the only elite brother combo (see page 22) to seek the pro beach volleyball limelight. In fact, the most intriguing set of siblings may be the Partains, 19-year-old Marcus and 18-year-old Miles. Together, they were the youngest team to make an AVP main draw, which they achieved in Hermosa Beach, California, in July of 2017. The 27 finalists consist of players and coaches that range from the 1940s to the 2000s. Numerous finalists have already been inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame and others have been inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame. Almost all nominees have won NCAA, AIAW or USVBA National Championships and over two-thirds have competed or coached in at least one Olympic Games. Of the 27 selected, the leading colleges for the finalists are UCLA with eight having either played or coached there and USC in second with six having either played or coached there. Stanford, San Diego State, Long Beach State and Pepperdine have 3 that have either played or coached there. “The SCIVBHOF committee had the unique job of reviewing nearly 100 nominees to reach the 27 finalists and I know it be a challenging process to reach the 15 hall of fame inductees,” said Michael Sondheimer, SCIVBHOF Executive Director. “Anyone associated with USA and Southern California indoor volleyball should be proud of the first two years of accomplishments for the SCIVBHOF in recognizing the legends of the sport and in efforts to grow the future of the indoor sport through making non-profit youth volleyball donations.” The SCIVBHOF is located at American Sports Centers in Anaheim and is a free display open to the public in the Sidelines Café.

    2008 Men’s Post-Season Awards Fédération Internationale de Volleyball [email protected] Telephone +41-21 345 35 35 Harley Headlines Men’s 2008 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour Award Recipients Lausanne, Switzerland, November 20, 2008 - Led by Brazilian Harley Marques, the top men’s players on the 2008 SWATCH FIVB World Tour were announced here Wednesday based on the results of the voting by SWATCH representatives, players, coaches, referees and officials associated with the international Beach Volleyball circuit. Winner of seven gold medals this season with two different partners, Harley was recognized as the SWATCH Most Outstanding Player for 2008 season at the year’s last double gender event in China this past weekend in Sanya. The women’s post-season awards will be announced next week. The men’s SWATCH Most Outstanding Player was selected byrepresentatives from SWATCH and the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), who also selected Igor Kolodinsky as the SWATCH top server for the 2008 season as the Russian recorded a record serve of 114.0 km/h. Harley teamed with Pedro Salgado to clinch the SWATCH team-of-the-year award by capturing the 2008 point’s championship at a mid-September event in Guarujà, Brazil. At the same time it is a sport recognized by major international sport associations such as the International Olympic Committee and the International Volleyball Federation. Beach Volleyball is a fun game that can help you accomplish your goals of becoming a world-class athlete. The doubles game can also be played on the grass, using the same portable net systems and rules. In 1996 Beach Volleyball was, for the first time, part of the Olympic Games. 24 Men’s Teams from 19 different nations and 18 Women’s Teams from 13 nations participated in the event. The American Men finished first and second in Atlanta. 1997 the U.S. hosted the 8th Beach Volleyball World Championships at the UCLA Tennis Center. In the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, with 48 teams from 23 nations, the USA team men took home the gold again, while the other men and women’s teams all tied with three 5th place finishes. Beach Volleyball is big! Especially in the United States where the AVP drives a professional volleyball circus bigger than in any other country. USA Volleyball and the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) have hosted thousands of major beach volleyball tournaments. For nearly a decade, the U.S. Junior Olympic Beach Volleyball Championships have been held for kids in the 18,17,16,15,14,13, and 12 & under age brackets. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) will stage the first ever Junior World Championships in the summer of 2001.

    2007 Tour Notes November 12 Update Fédération Internationale de Volleyball [email protected] Telephone +41-21 345 35 35 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour With 17 tournaments for both men and women, the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour calendar was highlighted by the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Championships in Switzerland along with four Grand Slams events in France, Norway, Germany and Austria. The 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour featured 21 events on four continents with prize money at US$8.15-million. The 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour schedule also featured 13 double gender stops. The 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Championships in Gstaad featured $1-millon in prize money while Paris, Stavanger, Berlin and Klagenfurt hosted Grand Slam stops where the combined prize money was $2.4-million for the combined men’s and women’s events. Event sites hosting international Beach Volleyball events for the first-time included Manama, Bahrain (men), Singapore (women), Seoul, Korea (women), Kristiansand, Norway (men women) and Aland, Finland (men and women).
