County Council Passenger Transport County Hall , Essex CM1 1QH

Date: 14 February 2018 Our Ref: Service 441 consultation

Dear Passenger

Service 441 Operated by Stephenson’s of Essex

Proposed cancellation of section of timetable funded by Essex County Council (ECC)

Background: ECC used to fund service 322 from Old Post Office to Newport and secondary Schools, one morning and one evening journey Monday – Friday, school days only.

In January 2018 Stephenson’s of Essex incorporated this ECC funded journey (Old Harlow – Little Hallingbury), into their commercial 441 Takeley to Saffron Walden service.

This contract (Old Harlow – Little Hallingbury section of the route), is due for renewal in July 2018 and the cost per passenger exceeds £5.00 for this section of the journey. Under the County Council’s policy for bus service support it will not usually support services where the cost exceeds £5.00.

Proposal: As only one passenger appears to be travelling on the ECC funded section of the route, it is proposed that the section will be removed & the commercial 441 service will revert back to previous timetable (ie Takeley to Saffron Walden High School)

We are carrying out public consultation regarding this proposed change for 6 weeks between 14 February 2018 – 28 March 2018
