In 2017-18, Babcock guided the Maple Leafs to single-season franchise records for points (105), wins (49) and home wins (29).

Babcock previously spent 10 seasons as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, where he compiled a regular season record of 458-223-105. Detroit captured the Presidents' Trophy twice (2005-06, 2007-08) under his direction and won the Stanley Cup in 2008. He is Detroit's leader in games coached (786) and wins (458).
