The Hon. Matthew Guy Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the Liberal Party, Victoria

Matthew Guy was elected as the Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Parliamentary Liberal Party in December 2014.

First elected to Parliament in November 2006, Matthew was re-elected in 2010. In the 2014 election, Matthew successfully stood for the seat of Bulleen in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

The son of a migrant, Matthew was born in Greensborough and raised in Montmorency, where he went to Montmorency High School and then worked part-time to put himself through university. Matthew has a Bachelor of Arts in politics and history from and has completed post graduate studies in Ukrainian language and culture at .

Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament, Matthew had a variety of jobs including representing agricultural interests at the Victorian Farmers Federation, as well as working in the finance industry as a manager at the Australian Securities and Investment Commission. He also worked in a number of political roles including for then Premier and the former Federal Assistant Treasurer.

In December 2010 he was appointed Victorian Minister for Planning and in March 2014 he was appointed Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship. These are two issues that Matthew is particularly passionate about – building a better, stronger Victoria that creates jobs, opportunity and improves the way we live, and celebrating Victoria’s vibrant, multicultural community.

Matthew is married to Renae and they have three children – Joseph, Samuel and Alex. He enjoys taking his sons to AusKick and he is a member of Plenty Valley FM, the St Kilda Football Club and the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Introduction

Richard Owen ExxonMobil Australia Chairman, ExxonMobil

Richard J Owen joined Esso Australia in 1983 and began work at the Longford Plants. Following a number of engineering, operational and management assignments in Sale, Sydney and Melbourne, Mr Owen moved to New Orleans, USA and was appointed as Operations Manager in 2001.

Mr. Owen transferred to Houston before being appointed as Joint Interest Manager for Alaska in 2004 based in Anchorage. In 2006, Mr Owen transferred to Hannover, Germany where he was named Deputy Production Manager for ExxonMobil Production Germany.

In 2011, Mr. Owen was appointed to the position of President and General Manager for ExxonMobil Affiliates in Indonesia based in Jakarta. Mr Owen returned to Melbourne in 2013 when he was named Chairman of the ExxonMobil group of companies in Australia.

Mr Owen is the President of the Australian Resource and Energy Group (AMMA), a board member of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) and a board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia. Mr Owen is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of Institute of Chemical Engineers and a Life Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Melinda is a company director and experienced senior executive. She is a non- executive director of Woodside Petroleum and Australian Unity and Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia. Melinda is also a member of NAB's advisory council on corporate responsibility as well as a member of the Parliamentary Budget Office panel of experts advisors.

She was previously a Commissioner with the Productivity Commission and Deputy CEO and Chief Economist with the Business Council of Australia. Melinda has also previously held senior roles with the Federal Department of Treasury, Invesco and the International Monetary Fund.

Melinda’s executive and director experience covers the corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors and she has a strong track record of working collaboratively across sectors
