The annual Spring Parents Dinner provides a unique opportunity for the extended Avon Old Farms family to celebrate the traditions and values of this exceptional school. It is a time to come together and enjoy each other’s company while also helping to increase the resources available to benefit the students.

The Parents Association is fortunate to be able to draw upon a long-standing tradition of volunteer and philanthropic support for Avon Old Farms School. Once again, we are deeply indebted to all the donors and to all the bidders for your generosity. It is your beneficence and personal participation that ensure the resounding success of this event.

The proceeds from the Parents Dinner and Auction will be used to augment the Student Enrichment Fund. Established in 1997, The Student Enrichment Fund is one way in which, collectively, we can enrich the curricular and extracurricular experience for all the boys. In past years, we have purchased the sound system for the theater, refurbished the Barnes Lounge, purchased new uniforms for several teams, provided funds for completion of the all weather track, refurbished common rooms in dormitories, handled restoration of all costumes and props, and provided the meal for the Boar’s Head Dinner. The current school year has seen a multitude of contributions made by the Parents Association such as, high speed internet access school wide, new printers for the dorms, funds to refurbish four classrooms, grants to each academic department, grant to the library, funds for a speaker Parents’ Weekend (Dr. Wilkie Wilson) and a visiting author for the school (Tim O’Brien), funds for state of the art computer graphics lab, salt water fish tank, ping pong and air hockey tables, funding for 30 boys to assist Habitat for Humanity in Florida and Pennsylvania and the list goes on!

We look forward to our continuing ability to enhance the boys’ experience during their years at Avon Old Farms. On behalf of the students, we thank you for your participation.

FINE WINE, 1975 PETRUS POMEROL Lane and Kelli Seliger, CP’02

Add this superb Bordeaux, a 1975 Petrus Pomerol to your wine collection. The 19th century vineyard owned at present by Jean-Pierre Moueix, is located 500 meters north of the Saint-Emilion appellation (Appellation Pomerol Controlée). The predominantly merlot (95%) and cabernet franc (5%) grapes are fermented in cement vats, aged in 100% new oak barrels for 22-28 months and are clarified with 5 fresh egg whites per barrel. The wine is never filtered and is the quality equivalent of first growth. What a production! The Petrus Pomerol is said to have “incredible power, depth and richness yet a remarkable balance with penetrating aromas of ripe mulberry, black currant and fruit and spicy vanilla oak, which sets it apart from all Bordeaux’s finest wines”. This 300 acre vineyard produces just 4000 cases per year and this is YOUR opportunity to own a very special bottle.
