PAGE 1 How to Apply

The Cape Cod Foundation scholarship applications are entirely online! To download a copy of this booklet and to find links to all of the online applications, visit capecodfoundation.org. We strongly encourage you to look through this booklet prior to beginning the online program to gauge your eligibility for our scholarships. Unless otherwise noted, scholarships included in this booklet use The Cape Cod Foundation’s Common Application.

While the majority of scholarships follow our spring cycle with a deadline of April 1, 2019, deadlines may vary. It is important that you pay attention to the information presented within this booklet. Incomplete applications and/or late applications, including late attachments, WILL NOT be accepted.

The specific materials needed for each scholarship will be detailed in the online application, but IN GENERAL, you should be prepared to submit:  At least TWO CURRENT letters of recommendation from teachers, professors, guidance counselors, coaches, employers, etc. For High School students, one of these recommendations must be from your guidance counselor. They will be asked to provide your transcript and other academic information as well as a recommendation.  The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR).  A personal essay and any additional material required for specific scholarships.  College students: A copy of your most recent academic transcript listing all coursework to date. PAGE 2 General Information  The award amounts and the number of awards listed in this brochure are approximate and may vary.  Please pay close attention to specific requirements and deadlines for each scholarship for which you are applying.  The Foundation reserves the right not to issue awards for certain scholarships as may be determined necessary from time to time due to extenuating circumstances.  The majority of scholarships are based on financial need, academic merit and non-academic activities, but each scholarship has its own evaluation criteria.  The selection process is competitive. Receipt of an award for one academic year does not guarantee that an award will be granted in subsequent years.  Most four-year awards do require that the student maintain a certain GPA to continue receiving benefits. Other criteria for maintaining a scholarship award will be outlined in the award letter should the student receive a scholarship.  Unless otherwise noted, students must reapply every year to be considered for awards. We urge students to reapply even if they did not receive an award in the previous year.  Scholarships are paid directly to the college and are made to US- based educational institutions ONLY.  For more information, visit capecodfoundation.org or call 508-790-3040.

The Cape Cod Foundation makes its best effort to ensure that scholarship dollars awarded will be used to directly offset student’s self-help need, instead of reducing institutional grants. Institutions/Colleges/ Universities may adjust financial aid packages to reflect scholarships other than those granted by the college. Usually a college or university will first use an outside scholarship to replace unmet need or reduce the amount of loans or work study before adjusting grants or scholarships. However, policies vary, and students should check with their institutions’ financial aid office.
