The resulting play, Cycle Fish, about a high school couple who agree that they should marry each other if they were both still single at 30, was subsequently performed at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. Her latest project is a young adult series made available as e-books. The Natnat Adventures are fast mov- ing books aimed at readers from eight years to 14 years of age. The series starts with The Secret of Sinbad’s Cave written while Mrs Walker Bain was working as an adven- ture guide for The Legendary Black Water Rafting Company at Waitomo. “The high limestone walls of the Black Labyrinth Tour were an inspira- tional landscape,” she explains. “I kept wondering what could be behind those walls.” The story features Nat and her brother and weaves the mystery and magic of Waitomo into a great story. UNDERLAY AND Nat Sheppard’s world is turned upside down on the first day of the school holidays by the discovery of a secret room containing cave maps with clues to an ancient treasure. * But Nat and her friends soon discover INSTALLATION they’re not the only ones chasing jewels. Professional treasure hunters are on the trail – and they’re prepared to PLUS NO INTEREST AND NO PAYMENTS FOR 12 MONTHS* eliminate anyone in their way. The second book, The Ship of Sight and the Hand of Shadow follows the adventures of Nat as she heads north to Cape Reinga. A phone call before dawn launches Kat Sheppard into a world of intrigue that leaves her fighting for her life. Entrusted with a sacred task that must be completed within two phases of the moon, Nat and her friends race up New Zealand toward Cape Reinga. But the ruthless villain they outwitted last holidays is hunting them and she will do anything to stop Nat completing her mission. The third book, already underway, will be set in Fiordland. Mrs Walker Bain thinks that there will be about seven books in the series with each book taking the characters to other mystical places in New Zealand. While the e-books are not illustrated the first story includes a map artfully designed by Kat Merewether from Design On Q in Te Awamutu. Mrs Walker Bain’s e-books are avail-

Eight cherry trees along Alex- andra Street will be replaced with tulip trees this Sunday. The current trees are a safety hazard because they hang too low, often obstructing motorists’ views and getting hit by trucks. Because of this, they need regular pruning and are quite out of shape. Some are also too close to pedestrian crossings or block street lighting. The trees being replaced are located along the centre of Alex- andra Street between Mutu and Churchill Streets. While the cherry trees do look appealing when in bloom, the new tulip trees will be less obstructive and require less maintenance. A horror second half saw Te Awamutu Sports blow a 22-7 lead to lose 30-25 in injury time to previously winless Mata- mata Sports in Waikato premier rugby. In doing so, Te Awamutu Sports got their promotion-relegation campaign off to the worst possible start at Albert Park on Saturday. The first half was a messy affair, but the home team always looked the more dangerous side. They broke the line a number of times and scored three tries through Jake Neild, Jarred Bayliss and Todd Doolan. Handling errors and poor decision- making prevented them from being even further in front at the break. Matamata hit back with a try to former Waikato No. 8/captain Alex Bradley. While the first half was not one of Te Awamutu’s better halves, they were still very much in control and just needed a tidy second half to secure the win. It never eventuated. They played the game like they were trailing, lacking control and leaving too many points out on the field through bad decisions and C poor execution. TC160715SP11 elebrating Senior Pets!
