Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has come a long way in the 55 years since its establishment in the wake of the Indo-China war of 1962. A truly glorious past motivatess the close knit 'Himveer' family both individually and as a team. ITBP has surge forth in the service of the Nation as the brave-hearts of the Himalayas. We salute our comrades-in-arms who have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty at the altar of motherland for upholding the Nation’s honour and security. Their sacrifice will continue to inspire us. We also hold our brethren who suffered grave injuries in the call of duty, in highest esteem. Chief Patron I am happy to note that a compendium on ‘Heroes of ITBP’ dedicated to martyrs and brave hearts of the Force has Krishna Chaudhary, DG been compiled by PR Cell, Dte Genl. I hope that our present and future generations would be highly motivated after going through the descriptions of heroic actions of the Force personnel in the line of duty. Constable Ajay Singh Pathania and Constable Roop Singh were at the Embassy of , Kabul in Afghanistan. On 7th July, 2008 Ct/GD Roop Singh was manning the barrier of the Main gate of the Embassy while Constable Ajay Singh Pathania was on sentry duty at the Main Gate. At 0830 hours, a Regt. No. 900150404 Land rover vehicle carrying the defence attaché Brig R.D.Mehta and Counsellor Shri V. Venkateshwara CT/GD Rao approached the gate. Ct Ajay Singh Pathania spotted a white Toyota Corolla directly behind the Land rover was suspicious. Ct Ajay Singh Pathania shouted at Ct Roop Singh not to lift the anti bomb hexa Ajay Singh Pathania barrier. (Posthumous) th Ct Roop Singh reacted and did not lift the barrier. Within a second, the Toyota Corolla ranmed into 9 Bn the Land rover resulting in a huge explosion, causing the death of Defence attaché and counsellor. Both Ct Roop Singh and Ajay Singh Pathania were also killed on the spot. Without caring for their lives, they prevented the tailing vehicle from entering the Embassy compound saving lives of the other Embassy staff. Ct Ajay Singh Pathania and Ct Roop Singh displayed extreme courage and valour, dedication and devotion to duty, motivation and determination, averted a major disaster inside the Indian Embassy at Kabul and gave the supreme sacrifice protecting the honour and sovereignty of the Nation. Both were Regt. No. 910140615 awarded Kirti Chakra Posthumously for the year-2008. CT/GD

Roop Singh (Posthumous) 12th Bn Kirti Chakra and its ribbon, the second highest peacetime decoration of India Shaurya Chakra Year- 2008 Shri Ashok Kumar Rana, AC/GD was posted in 19th Bn, ITBP. On specific information that some Shaurya Chakra Awardee foreign Militants are hide in Village Chirwar Distt-Anantnag (J&K) on 2nd November, 1998 Shri Ashok kumar Rana, AC laid cordon around Village Chirwar in early morning along with other parties of 19th Bn, ITBP. While requesting all the villagers to come out of their houses, five foreign Militants of Lasker- Regt No. 750020046 e-Toiba outfit came out from a house and started indiscriminate fire. AC/GD Shri Ashok Kumar Rana, AC after ensuring the safety of the villagers launched a counter attack against Ashok Kumar Rana (Posthumous) the militants, was leading his party from the front and gunned down all five militants and huge quantity of 19th Bn Arms, Ammunitions, Wireless sets, training précis and other intelligence value materials recovered. Shri Rana badly injured in this operation and sacrificed his life for the mother nation.

CT/GD Dev Kumar was a member of ITBP contingent deployed in Afghanistan for providing security to Border Road Organization (BRO) personnel engaged in road construction project Delaram-Zaranj. On 05.06.2008 at around 1715 hrs, an ITBP convoy was returning to the base camp after completion of duties, when suddenly a Corolla Vehicle laden with explosive came from the opposite direction and hit ITBP leading convoy vehicle. In the massive explosion that followed, CT/GD Dev Kumar,thus made supreme sacrifice in the service Regt. No. 880185704 of the Nation, upholding the highest tradition of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. CT/GD Dev Kumar (Posthumous) th Shaurya Chakra and its ribbon, the third highest peacetime decoration of India 8 Bn Year- 2009 Year-2009 CT/GD Onkar Nath was on security duty in Project Zaranj, Afghanistan. Shri Onkar Nath immediately informed the Manoj Kumar Singh TPT Bn After ensuring that the last vehicle of the convoy was safe, he regrouped his team for returning to HQ and helped in evacuating the other injured personnel. Shri Onkar Nath showed exemplary courage and (Posthumous) headquarters when a suicide bomber blew ups himself close to him. He sustained severe injuries and th presence of mind in the face of extreme adverse conditions and saved many lives. 10 Bn sacrificed his life on the line of duty.

NO 897040148 CT/GD Desha Singh, was part of the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) deployed for Year-2015 providing security to the Border Roads Organization (BRO) personnel in Afghanistan. On 3rd January ,2008 at 1645 hours, the Quick Reaction Team received information that a bomb kept in a motorcycle has been detonated before the convoy of BRO returning from the Quarry operations in a Taliban infested On 23rd May, 2014 at around 0325 hrs, a group of armed Fidayeens launched an attack on Consulate General town. The Quick Reaction Team immediately reached the blast site. of India, Herat (Afghanistan) with Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs/UBGLs) followed by incessant heavy burst fire from automatic weapons. Inspector Manjit Singh, who was commander of security arrangements Regt. No. 897040148 Without wasting time and cordination with QRT commander and after ensuring that the last vehicle made by ITBP in Indian Consulate in Herat quickly assessed the threat and ordered the troops to firmly counter CT/GD of the convoy moved away from blast site safely, he joined his team for returning to Headquarters when the Fidayeen attack. One Fidayeen was Manjeet Singh killed by ITBP commandos inside the premises of the Consulate while three others were compelled to take 16th Bn shelter in nearby build up area and later on neutralized by Afghan Forces. One Platoon of Indo Tibetan Border Police under the command of NK Sunder Lal was deployed at Mana near Badrinath, Distt- Chamoli (UP) located at an altitude of 10,400 ft above sea level. Police staff was For Gallantry staying in three local schools. On January, 29, 1968 evening around 5 O Clock, a strong thunderstorm moved into Mana area and came with a great ice storm resulting ITBP establishment sunk into the snow and all 20 staying staff numbers buried under the snow. However after two and half an hour, NK Sunder Lal succeeded in getting out of the pile of snow while others were still buried under the snow. Facing a difficult situation, trauma and wounds, yet Sunder Lal decided to rescue an alive man from snow and was able to save him. After crossing chest deep snow he went towards the Regt. No. 2577 post and called for assistance. Receiving no reply, he arrived at the check post after crawling about 10 yards and NK informed them about the incident. Sunder Lal nd As a result, three personnel were saved. Despite being completely exhausted, he remained involved in rescue 2 Bn operation until being admitted to the Hospital. NK Sunder Lal displayed conspicuous courage and devotion to duty causing saved theee precious lives. Year- 1996 Year- 2002 Ct Suresh Kumar and Ct Karamat Ullah were the part of the ITBP team deployed in On receipt of specific information about the presence of militants in a house at village village Larnu (J&K) on 18.12.1994 when it received information about a dreaded terrorist Bunagund, the ITBP Battalion organized a search operation for nabbing the militants. Ved Pal Malik Jadeja Rajender Singh 34th Bn ITBP Academy Year -1972 Police Medal for Gallantry On 3rd December,1971, when a coy of ITBP under command of Sh MS Khati, CC reached Bde HQ Poonch, shelling by enemy was going on. On 12th Dec, the section of L/Nk Chandra Mani was ordered to move at Shikaro Post which was strategically important and continued under enemy fire.
