Un tempo la Milano-Sanremo si correva il 19 marzo, festa di san Giuseppe, qualunque fosse il giorno in cui cadeva. Dopo l’abrogazione di tale festività, la corsa è stata svolta il sabato più vicino al 19 marzo. Dall’edizione 2013, una nuova variazione: la gara si corre la domenica più vicina al 19 marzo. Una scelta dettata da esigenze di sponsor e visibilità mediatica. Pertanto, “la classicissima” andrà in scena domenica 17 marzo. Sarà l’edizione numero 104. Nota anche come “classica di primavera”, la Milano-Sanremo è la più importante e famosa corsa di un giorno che si corre in Italia e, con una lunghezza 298 chilometri, è anche la più lunga. Forse lo sport delle due ruote non scalderà più gli animi come un tempo, ma in Liguria il passaggio dei corridori, domenica, sarà come sempre atteso da tanti appassionati o semplici curiosi, che formeranno ai lati delle strade due ali di spettatori che, assistendo alla corsa, faranno parte dello spettacolo stesso, all’insegna di una tradizione che ha sempre un sapore particolare per gli sportivi liguri. Intanto si respira già l’atmosfera delle grandi occasioni. Nel centro storico le vetrine dei negozi hanno cambiato faccia, mostrando cimeli storici, pagine dei quotidiani sportivi che raccontano le imprese dei grandi campioni del passato e biciclette d’epoca. Insomma un vero e proprio museo tra le vie della città che fa da cornice a quello che si inaugurerà sabato 12 aprile. Il Sindaco, Mario Lovelli, tiene a ringraziare i commercianti novesi e aggiunge: «La risposta degli operatori va al di là di ogni aspettativa. In questi giorni in cui Novi è sotto ai riflettori per l’inaugurazione del suo Museo, il più grande d’Europa per quanto riguarda il ciclismo, è importante presentare un’immagine positiva della città, e gli esercenti novesi lo hanno capito». Per il giorno dell’inaugurazione si attendono grossi nomi legati al mondo del ciclismo. Tra i personaggi delle prime file spiccano infatti i familiari di Coppi e Girardengo, i figli di Gino Bartali, la nipote di Gerbi e Lauretta Binda. Molte le “vecchie glorie”: da Fiorenzo Magni ai campioni del mondo Francesco Moser, Vittorio Adorni ed Ercole Baldini ed i gregari “di lusso” Ettore Milano, Andrea Carrea e Franco Giacchero. Hanno confermato la loro presenza anche Maria Canins, la più forte ciclista italiana di tutti i tempi, Nino De Filippis, Loretto Petrucci e Imerio Massignan.
