Thank you for your interest in Camp Half Moon’s Day camp Program. We are proud to be celebrating our 96th camp season in the Berkshires of Western . We are dedicated to providing a superb summer camp experience for children ages 3 to 15 and look forward to welcoming your son or daughter to our camp family this summer.

Camp Half Moon has been providing children from around the world with a fun-filled, memorable summer camp experience since 1922. Located in the Berkshire Hills of , Half Moon offers a beautiful lakeside campus complete with heated pool, playing fields, Skate Park, ropes course with zip-line, indoor recreation areas, dance, gymnastics, yoga, crafts and pottery facilities.

Our Camp community values and encourages each child's individuality; a community where campers not only have fun and develop lifelong friendships but also gain confidence and take pride in their accomplishments. Instruction in all areas of activity is the foundation of our program. Campers receive valuable recognition for their efforts and accomplishments at our weekly campfire and sleepover. We offer special programing for campers ages 3 to 6 yrs. Campers ages 7 and above choose from a wide variety of activities from Archery to Yoga and everything in between. Having the freedom to choose your own individual activity schedule and the flexibility to make changes weekly allows for a full summer of fun. LOCATION Half Moon is nestled among the tall pines on the shores of Buel in the beautiful Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. Boston is a two hour drive and New York just 3 hours. We are located only 5 miles from the center of Great Barrington.

CAMP PHILOSOPHY Half Moon offers a traditional modified program for boys and girls 3yrs to 15yrs. With the exception of our 3-6 year olds all activities are elective on a weekly basis. However, swim lessons are required for all campers in our lower camp (Tigers -Inters). Activities are instructional and focus on individual achievement and development. We believe that learning should be fun, safe and challenging. The values of friendship and respect are always encouraged. Opportunities for self expression are offered through a variety of activities. Leadership roles and inter-camp competitions are offered in variety of activity areas for those campers who wish to participate.

THE TYPICAL DAY – TIGERS AND PIONEERS Camper arrival begins at 8:30am Monday through Friday. Activities begin at 9:00 with three morning activities and a morning snack prior to lunch at 11:45am. Half Day campers will depart at 12:30pm prior to nap time. Tigers and Pioneers then have one more activity period prior to “rest hour” from 1:00 to 2:00. Those campers needing more than one hour will be allowed to continue with their nap time. Activities resume at 2:00 and go until 4:00. The Tigers and Pioneers will also be given an afternoon snack. At 4:00 campers head back to their cabins to gather their belongings and head to the lower field for departure. All Day Campers are invited to sleepover every Thursday night and partake in our camp wide campfire. THE TYPICAL DAY – JUNIORS THROUGH SENIORS Camper arrival begins at 8:30am Monday through Friday. Activities begin at 9:00 with three morning activities lasting one hour each. Lunch is served at 12:15 followed by “rest hour” from 1:00 to 2:00. Activities resume at 2:00 and go until 4:00. At 4:00 campers head back to their cabins to gather their belongings and head to the lower field for departure. All Day Campers are invited to sleepover every Thursday night and partake in our camp wide campfire. Campers should bring a small snack in their backpacks and a water bottle.

ABOUT OUR CAMPERS Half Moon is non-denominational and offers a multi-cultural Summer Camp Experience for both Day Campers as well as Sleepover Campers. Campers come from all over the U.S. and overseas. Each summer campers and staff come from nearby Atlantic States, the South, Southwest and West. They also come from far away lands including, England, Scotland, France, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Germany. Half Moon is home away from home for many a camper and counselor.

FACILITIES Half Moon’s facilities are located in a beautiful wooded area on the shores of Lake Buel in Monterey, Ma. The waterfront includes a slide, motorboats, sailboats, rowboats, kayaks, canoes an inflatable island and a floating water rug. Great Fun! Our heated pool provides both deep and shallow swim areas and swim lanes for our more serious swimmers. All water areas are maintained by certified lifeguards. Our ropes course includes a zip line, high elements as well as low elements to challenge our campers. Tillies is our new camper center housing ping pong tables, electronic basketball, big screen TV for the Wii or movies as well as tables and couches for indoor activities on rainy days. Two basketball courts, tennis courts, batting cage, gymnastics pavilion, yoga deck and soccer, baseball and volleyball fields provide play areas for our sports minded campers. Our new pottery barn houses three wheels, work stations and kiln. A separate crafts building rounds out our arts program. Oh, and we even have a skatepark!

CAMP STAFF Half Moon is family owned & operated and has been in the Mann family since 1967. Our staff are college age or older. Many are teachers. All are certified and/or experienced in their activity areas. Many of our staff are international. In addition to the skill qualifications, actual experience working with and teaching children is essential. Half Moon maintains a camper to staff ratio of 3 to 1 for Tigers, 4 to 1 for Pioneers and 5 to 1 for all other campers.

THURSDAY NIGHT SLEEPOVERS Thursday’s are very special at Half Moon. It’s an opportunity for all Day Campers to sleepover and participate in our weekly campfire. All meals are provided and included in your tuition. DAY CAMPER HOUSING Each Day Camper is assigned to a cabin group or platform tent area just like the Sleepover Campers. A cot is provided for each camper and this space becomes their home base while at camp. This is where campers leave their personal belongs, hang out during “rest Hour” and sleep on Thursday nights. Each cabin group has a cabin counselor to supervise and guide the children.

TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM CAMP Some families drive their campers to and from camp each day while others choose camp transportation. For a list of pick-up and drop-off times, locations and fees please refer to the back of the camper registration from.

LUNCH AND MORE The entire camp dines together for lunch at our covered picnic area and beautiful lodge style dinning room, both of which sit lakeside. Campers usually sit by bunk with their bunk counselor. Meals are served family style and included in the cost of tuition. Lunches include: pizza, hamburgers, hotdogs, tacos, nachos, baked potato bar, chicken patties, heroes, tuna , grilled cheese, macaroni & cheese, lasagna, spaghetti and rollups. For those campers staying over on Thursday nights, dinner is usually a cook-out with: BBQ chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, salad bar, side dishes and dessert. Breakfast on Friday morning includes: milk, juice, fruit, cold and hot cereal, pancakes, French toast, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, sausage, eggs, bagels, yogurt, donuts and coffee cakes. A salad bar is available at lunch and dinner and provides additional choices. Lunch and dinner also offer rolls/bread, vegetables, fruit and desserts. There are also snack times, cookouts, BBQ’s and buffets.

MEDICAL FACILITIES The health and safety of all campers is of primary importance and is carefully monitored. Half Moon has two registered nurses on site at all times in our health clinic. We are 5 miles from the nearest hospital and ambulance service.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING We will be offering a Leadership Training program for our older campers entering the 10th through 12th grade. Please call the office at 413 528 0940 to request information.

Payment Terms, Cancellations and Refunds: The deposit of $350.00 ($200.00 for Half Days) includes a non- refundable fee of $125.00 in the event of cancellation. It is understood the remaining tuition & fees will be divided into 3 equal payments payable on 1/15, 3/15 & 5/15. All tuition & fees are fully refundable (less the $125.00 non-refundable fee above) until 12/15/2017. Cancellation fees will be assessed as follows: $50.00 per week cancelled from 12/15/2017 to 4/15/2018, $75.00 per week cancelled from 4/16/2018 to 5/31/2018. Cancellations after June 1st will not qualify for refund. Refunds will not be given for late arrivals, early departures or missed days due to homesickness, inability to adjust or other personal reasons. One half of the remaining tuition will be refunded in the event a camper terminates due to recommendation of a physician. Reducing the number of weeks originally enrolled for will be considered a cancellation of those weeks. Any agreed upon refunds will be distributed at the close of the camp season. The Camp Week runs Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Any camper remaining at camp after 4:45 will be assessed a non- prorated $20.00 per hour charge payable at pick-up. The camp fee depends on the program & age of the camper and inlcudes lunch, basic activity programs & supplies, basic infirmary care, daily swim lessons (full day only) and 1 sleepover weekly including all meals. Tigers/Pioneers are provided with a morning & afternoon snack. The camp fee does not include medical insurance, specialized activity programs as described below or transportation to/from camp. Medical insurance is the responsibility of each individual family. The parent must sign a medical disclaimer prior to the child’s admittance into camp. Specialized activity programs include horseback riding, waterskiing. The fee for horseback riding is $210.00 per week. Water skiing (knee boarding and tubing) is offered at $120.00 per week. Registration for both activities is on a weekly basis to enable the proper scheduling of these activities. Transportation is available from most Southern Berkshire towns. Please refer to the chart above for specific locations, times, fees and restrictions. The program: The daily program provides 5 activity periods as well as a quiet time after lunch for all campers. Lunch is provided daily for all campers. Except by express permission from the Director, campers may not bring their own lunch. Each Thursday campers will be invited to attend the day camp sleepover and participate in the evening campfire. Written permission is required. Cancellations All tuition & fees are fully refundable (less the $125.00 non-refundable fee stated on Pg. 1) until 1/15/ 2016. Tuition Discounts: A sibling discount of 10% will automatically apply to the lower tuition and may not be used in conjunction with the Early Enrollment Discount or other special discounted rate offers. A sibling discount of 50 % applies Day Camp transportation. Referral discount will be given to all families referring a new camper to Half Moon. The credit will equal 5% of the new camper’s net tuition upon receipt of the new camper’s application and tuition payments. Camper Release: By signing the front of this registration from I acknowledge that I have read the entire registration form in detail and I give my child permission to participate in all camp programs, excursions and special outings as planned and supervised by Camp Half Moon. I recognize there are risks inherent in most camp activities and hold harmless the related parties (staff, volunteers and directors) from and against all claims and demands whatsoever on account of or in anyway from any accidental occurrence. We fully understand the Camp reserves the right to dismiss at its sole discretion any camper whose condition, conduct, influence or behavior is deemed by the Camp as unsatisfactory or detrimental to the best interests of the Camp or who violates the Camp Rules and Regulation. No refunds are to be made for campers dismissed for misconduct or disciplinary reason. Misconduct and illegal acts, such as using non-prescription drugs, smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Violations of these prohibitions as well as any other non-confirming or illegal behavior constitute grounds for dismissal from camp. We acknowledge that the Camp does not maintain any health or medical insurance, which would cover the camper while attending camp. The parent or legal guardian shall be responsible for the cost of the medal treatment, drugs and the like provided to their child during the camping season. Prescription medications will be billed to the parents. The camp will not be responsible for the personal health and well-being of children whose health forms are not submitted prior to the arrival of the child at Camp, or if the emergency release form is not signed by the parent.
