An ambitious and driven woman, Emily quickly developed an interest in running for a council position, though had some hesitations about applying. A well-respected and admired senior member of the chapter surprised Emily by taking her aside and encouraging her to run. Emily excitedly recalls their conversation, “She was not someone I knew very well; however, she recognized leadership qualities in me I didn’t know I had.” Experiencing sisterhood at its nest, this was a de ning moment for Emily and was the push she needed to submit her application and eventually be elected as vice president-membership.

*Kappa Delta collegiate and alumnae chapters raise funds annually to support the prevention of child abuse. Of the funds raised, 80 percent is donated to local child abuse prevention agencies and 20 percent is donated to Prevent Child Abuse America. In 2017/2018, Kappa Deltas donated $469,517 to Prevent Child Abuse America. This number is not included in the total above. “When my dad lost his job, there was a huge burden placed on our family. We almost lost our home, and my parents struggled to keep both my older sister and me in college. Freshman year, my meal plan shut o for two weeks due to my tuition payment not going through. Kappa Delta has helped me get through the hardest trials I have ever been through in my life. I am proud to be a part of an organization that promotes true friendship, holds us to the highest standards and encourages us to incorporate the values of Kappa Delta in our lives.”
