Since its first intercollegiate game in 1922, Michigan State Ice Hockey has been at the forefront of collegiate hockey success. From its tradition as a championship program to record-setting student-athletes and coaches, Spartan Hockey has reached the pinnacle of achievement. Munn Ice Arena has been home to Michigan State hockey since opening it’s doors on November 1, 1974. Home to two national championship teams, seven conference champions, and an undeniable home ice advantage thanks to one of college hockey’s best home crowds, Spartan teams have posted an impressive .679 winning percentage at home. In recent years, we have invested in our beloved arena to enhance the fan experience. NOW is the time we turn our attention to the student-athlete experience. Once we’re successful in constructing the Munn Ice Arena Addition, our Spartans will train, compete, learn, and grow in one of the finest hockey facilities in the country. The camaraderie between teammates is most often formed in the locker room, creating a team mentality and togetherness that often translates to success in competition. The current locker room does not provide the adequate space and technology for head coach Danton Cole the ability to motivate and educate student-athletes to success The current weight room lacks the space to properly train our student-athletes TRAINING CHAMPIONS. The Munn Ice Arena Addition will provide our Spartan student-athletes a facility dedicated to improving performance in competition. Through a state-of-the-art weight room, our Spartans will be prepared to meet the physical demands of a 7-month hockey season. Additionally, offices for coaches and staff will be elevated from the depths of Munn Ice Arena to provide areas to collaborate and motivate - all with the goal of enhancing the student-athlete experience. WEIGHT TRAINING In 2018-19, Taro Hirose was a First-Team All-American, Big Ten Player of the Year, and Hobey Baker Finalist. EVERYDAY EXCELLENCE. Dedicated shooting stations provide our Spartans the opportunity to fine tune their skills without having to compete for ice time as Munn Ice Arena is utilized by the communityin a variety of different ways each day. A player’s lounge will build team camaraderie, providing a space for our Spartans to develop their relationship off the ice which is vital to communication and trust on the ice. A state-of-the-art training area will allow for our Spartans to receive medical treatment from a first-class staff to prevent and mend injuries, enabling them to return to competition. PLAYERS LOUNGE Enhancing the current training area is a necessity to ensure our student- athletes receive first-class and modern medical treatment HYDRO THERAPY ROOM HALL OF HONOR Names like Miller, Mason, Carter, Cole, and many others will be celebrated in the new Hall of Honor. HONORING A CHAMPIONSHIP TRADITION. The Munn Ice Arena Addition would not be complete without honoring our Spartan legends and their remarkable accomplishments. A Hall of Honor will celebrate the extraordinary success that defines Spartan Hockey, motivating our current Spartans student-athletes and fans the motivation to continue the pursuit of excellence. Additionally, the Addition will include an expanded concourse and pro shop, allowing for Spartan fans to gather and engage with one another in support of Spartan hockey.
