2020 Promenade Dress Code Ladies: • Tea-length (mid-calf) or full-length gowns. If your gown has a slit in the hemline, it must go no higher than just above the knee. • Thin-strap and spaghetti-strap gowns are permitted. However, straps are required, and gowns should not be revealing or low-cut in the front. In the back, the gown must come up to the bottom of shoulder blades. • Bare midriffs, bare backs (below the bottom of the shoulder blades), and any other “holes” in the gown are not permitted. Sheer or “see-through” fabric over any part of the body required to be covered (midriff, lower back, etc.) is not permitted. • Dress shoes are required and must remain on feet the entire evening. • The GHI Family Handbook rules regarding hair, makeup, jewelry, and any other issues not covered in this description still apply. Ladies may wear a nail polish color of their choice to the prom, provided that, when they return to school on Monday, their nails follow handbook guidelines. *See Ms. Mueller or Ms. Brandolini for photo examples of acceptable and unacceptable dresses. Please note that the pictures are not exhaustive. Any lady may have her dress approved in advance by emailing two images of themselves with the dress on from both the front and the back (sides should be visible) to either Ms. Mueller or Ms. Brandolini. This is encouraged but not required. Gentlemen: • A formal tuxedo – i.e., “black tie attire” – is required. • “White tie attire” (even more formal than black tie – involving a black tailcoat, black pants, white waistcoat, and white tie) is also strongly encouraged. • No colored tuxedos are allowed; black is the only acceptable color. • Waistcoats (vests) and tailcoats are encouraged, but not required. Appropriate tie for a tuxedo is required. • Ties, vests, and cummerbunds (if worn) may be colored, if desired. • Dress shoes are required and must remain on feet the entire evening. • The GHI Family Handbook rules regarding hair, jewelry, and any other issues not covered in this description still apply. *See Mr. Schuler for photo examples of acceptable and unacceptable attire for the evening. Please note that the pictures are not exhaustive. Any gentlemen may have his attire approved in advance by emailing two images of themselves with the attire on from both the front and the back to either Mr. Malpiedi or Mr. Schuler.
