Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Crosfields ARLFC at the Webb Security Recreation Ground. Today, we welcome the players, supporters and officials from West Bowling, for today’s Kingstone Press NCL Division Two Round Eleven game. West Bowling had a great start to the season and have continued in good form, winning 6 and losing just 2 games, to put them in second place in the division. This season, Ben Heald leads the try-scorers with 8, whilst Harry Williams has kicked 44 goals in his 100 point collection. Daniel Halmshaw has had 3 MOM awards. Crosfields are lying mid-table having won 5 and lost 5. After going down 0-12 at half time last week, the team rallied well and were more like themselves in the second half and came away with a good victory 22-12. Jack Reid is the stats man, so far. Leading the try scoring with 7, the goal scoring with 34 and therefore the points scoring with 96. He has also picked up 5 man of the match awards. Last season, the games were shared. Crosfields won convincingly away, whilst West Bowling provided a Grandstand finish, scoring 8 points in the last few moments to secure a 20-22 victory. There are fund-raisers coming up for former players Dan Worrall and Jimmy Orford. Dan had a serious accident earlier this year, whilst Jimmy has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Please see details further on for how you can help with these events. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Crosfields winning the BNFL BARLA National Cup. Throughout the season, we will take trips down memory lane to celebrate the achievement and will hold a special re-union day, on Saturday 22nd June 2019. Today, Round Six, Woolston Rovers v Crosfields. Our Sponsor Focus today is on Millennium Supplies, who have supported the club over a number of years and provide a fantastic service to their customers. Millennium Supplies are our main sponsor for the second kit provided by the Rhino Rugby and Arnold Clarke deal with the Kingstone Press National Conference League. I thank Tony Jones and his team and all our sponsors, for their continued support.

Good luck to everyone involved today. Yours in Sport, Crosfields ARLFC – Next at the Webb Security Recreation Ground

THE Coral is alive and kicking! I know that the venerable old competition seems to have been struggling in recent years but there was plenty of action last week to suggest that the Silver Lady is high on the priorities of players and coaches. Wembley remains a dream target, although only eight clubs now have the great stadium still in their sights (with another group, including two of those that are still in the Challenge Cup, now battling for a place in the inaugural 1895 Cup Final, of course). Several of those eight are in the quarter-finals by the skin of their teeth after having edged thrillers last weekend. There was arguably nothing more compelling than ’ stunning 24-22 victory over old rivals Rhinos, a sensational triumph for a Betfred Championship side over a outfit. Don’t tell Bulls coach or his stand-off that the Challenge Cup doesn’t matter so much anymore. Clearly it does to them, to the rest of the Bradford camp and, very importantly, to the fans, who turned out in numbers for an historic win that thrilled BBC TV viewers. Bradford’s reward is a quarter-final tie with their neighbours Halifax, meaning that the semi-finals will include a second-tier side for, I think, the first time since Hull KR reached the last four in 2006. One of those two will soon be 80 minutes away from Wembley, which is what the magic of the Challenge Cup is all about; as is the fact that Halifax are not too far away from dreamland despite having been somewhat fortunate to have survived their recent tie at League 1 side Hunslet, which they edged 28-24. There were thrillers, too, at Warrington, where the Wolves pipped 26-24, and at Huddersfield, where the Giants pushed favourites St Helens all the way before losing 22-16., while staged a rally to prevail 32-18 at . The four other ties were won comfortably, certainly the one in France, where holders beat Doncaster 62-6, with seeing off and Halifax cruising home at Rams, although Hull FC were helped to a 28-12 victory over by a number of Tigers errors. What the Challenge Cup now needs is a great final before a big crowd. In that sense many neutrals would, I think, like to see St Helens make it through. The Saints generally play in a style that would grace Wembley and the fact that they haven’t been there since 2009 (a surprising fact) means that their fans would in all likelihood turn up in numbers. Wakefield Trinity, who St Helens meet at the next stage (and whose fans will certainly be hungry for Wembley after a 40-year hiatus) will have something to say about that of course, in further proof that the Challenge Cup is alive and, if not exactly in rude health, at least well. Saturday 11th May 2019 - Crosfields 22 Shaw Cross Sharks 12 A superb second half performance saw Crosfields take the victory in a classic “game of two halves”. Both sides traded sets for the opening 15 minutes. The visitors looked dangerous, but a great tackle a yard from the line, stealing the ball in the process. Unfortunately, he was penalised and from the resulting set, Sam Ottewell broke the line for the opening score. Ex-pro Paul March kicked the conversion for a 0-6 lead. Not for the first time this season, Crosfields were penalised with the ball, for complaining about interference in the tackle, which were slowed throughout. March kicked the penalty for 0-8. The visitors were back on the attack, when they secured a 40/20. Crosfields repelled the advance, with the defence holding firm. Crosfields turned defence into attack, but a good break came to nought, as the ball was lost on the half-way line. The Sharks took full advantage, stretching the Soap defence and Declan Brereton crossed for a try. –12. Crosfields looked to be getting some points on the board for their first half efforts, as John Wilkinson broke through. He fed Jordan Williams, who started the game in the centre, who in turn, found his winger Aaron Holliday, but Holliday couldn’t quite make it to the corner and the half time score remained Crosfields 0 Dan Reid Shaw Cross Sharks 12. Crosfields ARLFC – Round Ten – Second Half

Saturday 11th May 2019 - Crosfields 22 Shaw Cross Sharks 12 Crosfields started the second half brightly, forcing a drop out from the restart. The forwards ploughed into their opposite numbers and Ben Mellor looked as though he had Crosfields’ first points, but was held up. The Shaw Cross defence held strong, but was undone when Hayden James grubbered through and the alert Elliott Budgen-Bridge pounced to the delight of his fellow players and supporters. Luke Walker converted and Crosfields were just a score behind at 6-12. Seven minutes later it was all square. James broke brilliantly from acting half, shrugging off would be tacklers, before drawing the full- back to send Whittaker under the post. Walker again converted. Crosfields were dominant, but the visitors defended stoutly. Crosfields crossed the line twice in quick succession, but were held up. A kick to the corner looked to break the defence, but the ball was lost in the tackle over the line. Soap continued to apply the pressure and were eventually rewarded, when a gap opened up and James fed Louis Wainwright to send him over, to put his side in front 16-12. 5 minutes later, the scoreboard ticked over again. A rare kicking mistake saw Shaw Cross put the ball out on the full, giving easy position and possession to the home team. Jordan Williams (revelling in his return to the pack at half time) and Tom Brown made ground on their drives, pulling in the defence to stop them. Quick hands across the backs put Dan Reid over in the corner. Walker converted from the touchline for the final score of the game and victory for Soap at 22-16. Williams was outstanding in his second half spell in the pack, whilst Whittaker and Walker were dangerous. Phil Brazendale and Brown worked hard throughout. Hayden James took the man of the match award, being instrumental in most of the attacking play and resolute in Mitch McJay defence. Saturday 18th May 2019 – Crosfields Alliance v Culcheth Eagles

It’s been a long time between games for the Alliance, having only played a solitary game in SIX weeks and haven’t played at the Webb Security Recreation Ground since March.

Franco and Lou Walsh have been in constant touch with the players to ensure that they are prepared for today’s local derby and they are all desperate to get playing again.

Training has gone well, but it will be like starting the season again.

Culcheth Eagles won their opening two games, but have lost their games since, leaving them next to bottom in the division. Things did pick up last week, as they ran Woolston Rovers close and are confident in improving today.

The Alliance will be in the new Rhinos Rugby/Arnold Clarke kit for today’s game. Thanks to both companies for their sponsorship.

Big thanks to Tony Jones of Millennium Supplies Ltd , who is our main sponsor for the kit, along with Block One, Webb Security and Cheshire Plastering and Renovations. In association with Chapelhouse and Taylor Wimpey, Crosfields are hosting a charity touch rugby event to support former player James Orford James Orford is 39 and has brain cancer. This disease is indiscriminate but has afflicted one of the sweetest, most generous, honest souls known to us. A cruel hand to be dealt but one that James is tackling in his usual gritty, determined and calm manner. He is a fighter! James has had to stop working, had his driving license revoked and is now focused on getting better. The many friends he has looked after and supported all these years admire him and value him a great deal. Even though he doesn't like fuss and would never ask for help, we all want to contribute to making life a little less stressful for him while he concentrates on his treatment. James is a former Laportes and Crosfields junior and Soap open age player who had a devastating turn of pace off the mark often bamboozling defenders with his famous 'windmill' Jimmy Orford dummy! We are delighted to host a touch rugby tournament that will help to raise some much needed support. We have created a Facebook event for the tournament taking place on 8th June Teams are 7 a side there will be food, raffle, auction and disco till late. To enter a team please contact John Bannon on 07952 808447 or Russ Parkman on 07493 884416 £10 per player donation, standard touch rugby rules apply. "Anfield and Liverpool have embraced our sport," said Super League chief executive Robert Elstone. "Throughout all our discussions on the Magic Weekend, they made it very clear to us that they wanted that relationship to continue. The game should be proud that Anfield has become a venue." For several Super League clubs, the switch to Anfield will represent a much shorter trip. Warrington, for example, will only need to travel 19 miles to Anfield, compared with a 160-mile journey to Newcastle. Wolves head coach Steve Price told BBC Radio Merseyside: "It's an iconic stadium with a great history. Hopefully we can all put on a good spectacle.”

Good afternoon and a warm welcome to everyone today to the Webb Security Recreation Ground. I hope the players and supporters of West Bowling had a good journey. West Bowling provided us with two good games last year. One in which we got our first away win of the season and the start of a 10 game winning run. Then West Bowling turned us over with a last gasp kick, from the half way line, to beat us down here by two points. West Bowling have had a good start to the season and were early favourites. They currently lie second in the league, so I am expecting a really tough encounter today. On the back of a great second half last week, we’re hoping we can improve and play for the full 80 minutes this week and get some consistency into our play, team and results. This week has seen one of the best, toughest and most honest forwards forced to retire, due to injury. I would like to thank Phil Brazendale for his efforts over the years. It’s been a pleasure to play alongside and coach you, Phil. Thanks for everything. Best of luck and see you after the game. Thanks, Ian. Crosfields ARLFC – Sponsors Crosfields ARLFC – Dan Worrall

Friday 7th June 2019 - Fund Raiser at Eagle Sports. There will be food, music and entertainment for all, with Dan’s family and friends. To raise funds, there will be a raffle, and auction for signed sporting memorabilia and entry fee of £10. Everybody is welcome!

The Goal The number one goal is to get Dan better. However, life keeps moving and doesn’t stop for anyone, so over the foreseeable future, Dan will have bills to pay and doesn’t have money coming in. The GoFundMe page was created for a prosthetic leg, which start at about £5,000 for a basic leg. Given that Dan is immensely outgoing, active and not to mention still very young and has a long life to live, a prosthetic leg for Dan is going to cost upwards of £15,000-£30,000.
