TONIGHT The Colorado Avalanche takes on the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of their second round Playoff series tonight at Rogers Place in Edmonton. Dallas leads the series 3-1. The Avs, who defeated the Coyotes in five games during the first round, have advanced to the second round of the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2004-06.

STREAKING Nathan MacKinnon has a point in all 12 games this postseason, the longest playoff point streak in franchise history. He eclipsed the previous record of 10 straight games with a point set by Marian Stastny with Quebec in 1982 and equaled by Joe Sakic in 1996. MacKinnon's streak is the longest in the postseason since 2010, when Jonathan Toews had a 13-game streak and Johan Franzen had a 12-game run. MacKinnon is one of six players in NHL history to begin a postseason with a point streak of 12 or more contests, joining Bryan Trottier (18 games in 1981), Mark Messier (14 games in 1988 and 13 games in 1994), Bobby Orr (14 games in 1970 and 13 games in 1972), Franzen (12 games in 2010) and Denis Potvin (12 games in 1976).

GREAT NATE Nathan MacKinnon leads the league with 21 points (7g/14a) this postseason, the most by an Avalanche skater in a single playoff year since Peter Forsberg had 27 in 2002. MacKinnon leads the league in assists, also the most by a Colorado skater since Forsberg (18) in 2002. Nate's seven goals are tied for third in the NHL and he leads the league with 54 shots.

ALL HAIL CALE Cale Makar shares the rookie scoring lead with 13 points (3g/10a) this postseason, tied for the fourth most by a rookie defenseman in Stanley Cup Playoff history. His 13 points are tied for third among all defensemen this year and are the most by an Avalanche blueliner in a postseason since 2002 (Greg deVries 13). Only one rookie in franchise history has tallied more points in a single postseason, Marian Stastny (17) in 1982. Cale tallied three assists in Game 3 at Dallas, a single-game playoff record by an Avalanche/Nordiques rookie defenseman. It was only the second three-point effort by a Colorado/Quebec rookie defender, as Jeff Brown had three (1g/2a) in Game 4 of the 1987 DSF vs. Hartford (April 12, 1987). Cale logged 27:26 of ice time in Game 1 vs. Dallas and 27:48 in Game 2, the top two ice times ever by an Avalanche rookie in a single playoff game.

BACK-TO-BACK The Avs are participating in their second back-to-back of this postseason, as they split Game 2 (W, 3-2) and Game 3 (L, 2-4) of the first round against Arizona. This marks the first time since the franchise relocated that the Avs will play multiple back-to-backs in the same playoff year. The Avalanche had 12 back-to-backs during the regular season, finishing 9-3-0 in the first contest and 6-5-1 in the second.

THE KADRI MAN CAN Nazem Kadri leads the league in game-winning goals (4) and power-play tallies (5). Kadri's four game winners are tied for the second most in a single playoff year in franchise history, while his five PPG are tied for the third most. Four of those five PPG came against Arizona, matching the franchise record for a playoff series. Kadri's seven goals overall are tied for third in the league.

HIT PARADE The Avalanche were credited with 72 hits in Game 3 at Dallas, the most by any team so far this postseason and the most in a single game in Avalanche playoff history. Gabriel Landeskog had 12 of those hits, tied for the second most by an Avalanche skater in a playoff contest. Adam Foote had 13 in Game 3 of 2002 WCF vs. Detroit and Darius Kasparaitis had 12 in Game 4 of 2002 WCF vs. Detroit.

LIGHT THE LAMP Colorado leads all teams in scoring this postseason, averaging 3.83 goals-per-game. Colorado's 6-4 victory in Game 3 marked the third time this postseason the Avs have scored six or more goals. Only the 1997 Avalanche (four) had more such games. The 1999 team also had three.

AVS & STARS This marks the fifth postseason meeting between the Avalanche and Stars. Dallas beat Colorado in back-to-back Conference Finals in 1999 and 2000 and then the Avs defeated Dallas in consecutive first round matchups in 2004 and 2006.

CONNECTIONS Valeri Nichushkin was drafted by Dallas (10th overall in 2013) and played for the Stars ... Kevin Connauton played for Dallas and Blake Comeau played for Colorado.

GETTING OFFENSIVE The Avalanche tallied 22 goals in the first round series against Arizona, tying the franchise record for a five-game series. The Nordiques also scored 22 in the 1985 DSF vs. Buffalo. It was the most goals by any team in a five-game series since the Penguins tallied 22 against Ottawa in the 2013 CSF. Colorado wrapped up the series with consecutive 7-1 victories in Games 4-5, scoring seven goals in back-to-back playoff games for the first time in franchise history. The Avs were the first NHL team to score seven-plus goals in consecutive playoff games since the Flyers in the 2012 ECQF versus Pittsburgh and became the fourth team in NHL history to do so in the final two games of a series. It was the first time in NHL history a team has won the final two contests of a series by six-plus goals.

YOU HAD TO BE A BIG SHOT The Avs rank third in shots-per-game (36.5) and rank first in shots-allowed-per-game (26.3). Colorado out-shot Arizona 185-108 during the first round series (37.0 to 21.6). The Avalanche set a franchise playoff record by allowing just 14 shots-on-goal in their Game 1 win and gave up only 15 in Game 4, tied for the second fewest ever. Colorado fired 51 shots-on-net in Game 3, just the sixth 50+ shot performance in franchise playoff history and only the second in a non-overtime finish (Game 3 of 2019 FR vs. Calgary). Colorado's +28 shot differential in Game 3 (51-23) was the largest in franchise playoff annals.

PLAYOFF TIME Colorado is in the postseason for the third straight year, which ranks as the third-longest run in franchise history. The Nordiques/Avalanche made 11 straight trips to the playoffs from 1994-95 to 2005-06 and Quebec made seven straight from 1980-87. The Avs have advanced to the second round in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2004-06. This is Colorado's 35th playoff series since relocating (21-13 record). This is the 50th playoff series in franchise history (27-22) and 44th best-of-seven series (24-19). The Nordiques / Avalanche own a 151-135 all-time record in 286 playoff contests, 116-90 since relocating.

PLAYOFF OT Colorado/Quebec is 40-29 all-time in playoff OT, 30-21 since moving to Denver. Five current players have scored a playoff OT goal
