Hello Jazz History Fans! In 2007 we realized that there was a shortage of music publishers that were solely concerned with restoring, preserving, and protecting written jazz music. There were numerous record labels releasing historic jazz recordings, but very few music publishers were aware of or concerned with the importance and value of the musical that were being played on these recordings. Efforts by directors to secure historic arrangements were difficult or went unfulfilled. In addition, many of the sources that did exist for these arrangements were bootleg operations, selling unauthorized photocopies or poorly transcribed music.

Jazz Lines Publications was founded to provide accurate, definitive, and legal editions of historic jazz arrangements. All of our arrangements are published legally by compensating the proper copyright owners. In addition, we have publishing agreements with the arrangers and band leaders or their estates. Where possible, we use the autograph scores and/or parts as the source. Where we have to rely on transcriptions, we have used the industry’s best transcribers to obtain accurate scores from which to publish. All our titles are edited and annotated by Jeffrey Sultanof, a 30+ year veteran of the music publishing industry.

We are thrilled to work alongside and represent musicians such as Terry Gibbs, Med Flory, Frank Foster, and Sammy Nestico, as well as the estates of Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan, Oliver Nelson, Duke Pearson, Benny Carter, Mary Lou Williams, Manny Albam, and others. We have many historic arrangements scheduled for release in the coming months and years as well as additional famous arrangers and performers that we’re looking forward to working with! We will remain committed to restoring, preserving, and protecting America’s musical heritage.
