Lowball meaning the lowest four card hand wins, which means no pairs but the twist is that there cannot be two cards of the same suit in your hand either. You do not need a 4 card Badugi to win however. You could have a 3-card Badugi where one card matches suits or are paired and a (3h-3d-7s-9c) or a two card Badugi where two cards matches suits or are both paired (2c-2s-9h-9d). At showdown the lowest 4 card Badugi wins. All 3-card Badugi win versus 2-Badugis. If the showdown hands are the same type, then the lowest hand will always win. For example: - Ad-2c-3s-6h would beat an Ac-2s-4c-8d in a two Badugi showdown. - Ac-4d-4h-9s would beat a 3h-5c-5d-7s in a 3-card Badugi showdown. - 5c-5d-8h-8s would beat a 2c-2h-9s-9d in a 2-card Badugi showdown. Knowing the basics can put you ahead of many players trying Badugi for the very first time. This poker variant is relatively new to the poker world and just playing a non-complicated strategy can pay off really big. Here is some basic Badugi strategy you should learn before sitting at a table. Since Badugi involves three draws, you can get count paying a lot of money chasing your hand to the end trying to hit a good Badugi. Having a capped range plus adding the fact that we are out of position makes it hard. If we are playing against an aggressive opponent, he will be able to put us in very tough spots post flop. Also, our range is very face up and we will often be left guessing for our entire stack on the river with a medium strength hand. Now, what can we do to counter that? Call a tight range out of position! Especially in tight range scenarios (UTG vs CO 3b for example). We can start folding low pocket pairs like 22-66 and suited connectors. Calling them on some occasions (25% of the time) is also fine but we must make sure that we are mostly folding them. Even hands as strong as 77 and 88 are getting folded sometimes in those tight range’s situation. Of course, if we are in situations where the ranges are wider like BU vs CO, we can go ahead and call wider. All in all, make sure to keep in mind that when facing a 3b out of position, calling a tight range will be the right approach. 2. What to do post flop after calling a 3 bet? Implement an aggressive check raising strategy! Even though your range is missing the absolute best hands, your range still has a good amount of equity in general and using an aggressive check raising strategy in most situations will be the right approach.

The development of competitive artificial Poker playing agents has proven to be a challenge, because agents must deal with unreliable information and deception which make it essential to model the opponents in order to achieve good results. This paper presents a methodology to develop opponent modeling techniques for Poker agents. The approach is based on applying clustering algorithms to a Poker game database in order to identify player types based on their actions. First, common game moves were identified by clustering all players’ moves. Then, player types were defined by calculating the frequency with which the players perform each type of movement. With the given dataset, 7 different types of players were identified with each one having at least one tactic that characterizes him. The identification of player types may improve the overall performance of Poker agents, because it helps the agents to predict the opponent’s moves, by associating each opponent to a distinct cluster.
