The MPP List

The MPP list has been written up both as a way to present MPP to itself and others. In this it represents those journals and publishers to which we are committed as a Department with an international reputation for studying management and organization in relation to politics, , law, technology, history, culture and society.

The cliché is that no list can be exhaustive, and clichés persist because they often talk to truth. Yet whilst it is not exhaustive, the list is suggestive of the rich and varied research interests that make up MPP. It indicates where we envisage common cause in our research life, and does so with regard for the diverse motivations for scholarly publishing.

The MPP list includes publishers and journals to which we have been, and continue to be, committed, as well as more aspirational titles which reflect the departmental values of critique and of disciplined scholarship. We make no distinction between the value placed upon and peer-reviewed research articles, believing both integral to scholarship, and we are also committed to dissemination beyond academia; hence the list includes discussion and essayistic journals and newspapers. Reflecting the tradition of MPP in the European social sciences and humanities, the list acknowledges those journals and publishers who take the social sciences and humanities seriously, and who more broadly acknowledge the long-standing role of the university as an institution in social, political, economic and cultural life. Crucially, in this regard, the list is not limited to the scientific lingua-franca of English.

Our faculty have diverse disciplinary and interdisciplinary backgrounds. The MPP list therefore acknowledges of a number of ways of evaluating publication venues. As a department in a business school, we value top-ranked journals in the AJG list. As a department comprising those trained and working in technology, , history, law, , public administration, and interdisciplinary social science, we value top-ranked journals in each of these fields in the InCites Journal Citation Reports. Finally, as a Department steeped in critical thinking we value journals with the highest provenance and scholarly respect, often demonstrated by the status of those who publish in them. In respect to both presses and journals, we take heed of the Danish Bibliometric BFI-list.

The criteria we have used in creating the MPP list are brought out in the following questions:

- What embodies the spirit of MPP and its areas of interest? - Which places allow scholars to develop as they take up academic conversations? - Which journals, publishers and periodicals have a reputation for handling renowned and provocative scholarship? - To which publication spaces is MPP somehow mutually indebted? - Which publication spaces allow us to speak broadly and passionately? - What are the performative a/effects of such a list?
