Staying Connected: Many parish and diocesan groups have stayed connected via apps such as Zoom. If you are a member of a parish pastoral council, baptism team, liturgy group, choir, funeral ministry team or other parish group and have not yet explored this possibility, perhaps now is the time to do so. Never before has it been as important to stay connected and to support one another. Our parish groups do not have to stop but we might have to be creative in helping them function for the time being. There are people in every parish who have the tech skills. So send out the call for help and you might be pleasantly surprised!

November Remembrance A reminder, an invitation and some ideas This year has been unlike any other in the manner in which we have been able to mark the deaths of loved ones and members of our parish communities. Parishes have done their utmost to continue to offer the support of the Church and the consolation of our faith under very restrictive conditions. The Christian belief in the resurrection, which transforms our understanding of the meaning of death, has continued to be proclaimed and shared with those who mourn. Parishes have continued to accompany families in their time of grief. As we approach the month of November, we know that it stands out as a month when parishes actively reach out to the bereaved and offer them the consolation of prayer and support, especially through the celebration of the Mass. This year, in the midst of a pandemic which has made the grieving process so much more difficult for people, parishes are being invited to continue to reach out to families in prayerful and practical ways. While the burden on parish life is great at this time, this outreach of support and care goes to the heart of our mission as a Church to bring Christ’s consoling love to those who need it. Because of this, the Diocesan Commission for Liturgical Formation is asking parish teams, funeral ministry teams, liturgy groups and/or parish pastoral councils to look to their own particular circumstances and to discern what is appropriate and possible for them to do locally to continue this November remembrance of the dead and to reach out to families who have suffered bereavement in the past year. The commission is providing the following as ideas that may be taken for use or may trigger other local

Changes in Mass times: There will be no Masses in Kilshanroe Church for the next six weeks, because of the Government Guidelines not to travel no more than 5k from your home, The times for the weekend masses in Derrinturn Church are,10am and 7.30pm on Saturday, and Sunday @ 11am in Derrinturn Church, weekday Masses will still be at 9.30am in Derrinturn Church Mon – Fri, all masses will be streamed live via webcam, if you are scheduled to read at any of the above Mass times and you wish to proceed with the reading, please feel free to come along, as we were advised by the Bishops office it is okay to do so.

Carbury Community Garden: Why do we always think of Woodie Guthrie when we need some help? Because he was all for justice for the common man or woman. When he saw an injustice he spoke out or sang a song about it, so we have his most famous song, “This land is your land, this land is my land”. The Community Garden in Carbury hold an open door for everyone, nothing could be fairer. However, unfortunately is suffering a grave injustice. It is being vandalised on a serious scale, a picnic table ended up in the stream, the beautiful notice board has been pulled down, and only last Sunday the garden fence was pulled down. We have consulted with many people of the Parish and sought help from the Authorities as to what to do.It seems that the best advice we can get is to put up a camera, and name and shame. The U.N. Declaration of Human Rights has a clause that says both People and Communities have a right to protect their legitimately held property. The Community Garden Committee are entitled to that protection, it is their God given right. Woodie Guthrie would Amen to that; he hated injustice of any kind. We are looking forward to a good year next year, with the Covid behind us please God, and our garden furniture restored to its rightful place. The Community Garden Committee

A Prayer for our Priests as they exercise their ministry during this time of the Coronavirus Eternal God, Be with our priests this day as they seek to minister to your people. May you be a guiding and protective presence with them as they bring the consolation and hope of your word and the grace and nourishment of Eucharist to those entrusted into their care. Grant them the strength of mind and body, keep them safe to do your will, and give them the courage and peace to face each day with trust and confidence in you. Into your hands O God, we commend them; fill them with your grace and healing. Amen.
