SEMC ANNUAL REPORT 2016 From the Presidents

t has been a tremendous honor to serve as president of the Southeastern Museums Conference for the past two years, and to be part of such an effective, respected, and growing professional organization. Once again for me the highlight of Ithe past year was the SEMC annual meeting in October. The muse- ums and cultural organizations of Charlotte embraced us gener- ously and enthusiastically and created an exceptional and unforget- table experience for everyone who attended. The annual meeting is the most visible way SEMC benefits its members, by providing the opportunity for an intense few days of networking, fellowship, and professional growth. It was also the occasion for the rollout of SEMC’s new strategic plan, the culmination of many months of hard work and intense conversations about the direction we want to take as an organization.

As I have noted in past years, only a financially viable organiza- tion can operate effectively on behalf of its membership. Thanks to careful planning and budgeting, strict fiscal controls, and close oversight, SEMC remains in excellent financial shape, and is one of
