In the end the committee decided to combine Oriental and Hollywood to go with a Chinese Theater theme. Page 6 The Talon December 2008 Winter athletes introduced at Meet the Eagles Page by Ben Yates This year’s Meet the Eagles took place on Nov 14th to introduce the athletes participating in winter sports, including boys and girls basketball players, dancers, and cheerleaders. Boy’s Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams were introduced, followed by girls Junior Varsity and Varsity, VHS dancers and cheerleaders. Pizza was served in the commons before the event started in honor of the athletes. At around six o’ clock, the lights went out as the athletes ran out onto the floor with their respective teams, then all of the senior athletes ran out last. After the introduction, the band played the national anthem and the cheerleaders cheered, as all the basketball teams played scrimmage games for the crowd. In between games, the dancers showed off their new routines. Overall, Meet the Eagles was a success. “It is a lot of work, but it was well worth it,” says Mrs. Palmer, coach of the girls team. VHS WYSE team selected for 2008- 2009 school year The 2008-2009 WYSE team was recently selected. WYSE stands for World Wide Use for Science and Engineering. It is a competition put on by the University of Illinois to challenge people in English, Biology, Graphic design, computer science, math, chemistry, and physics. Page 7 The Talon December 2008 VHS students participate in SCC’s 20th Annual Musical, “Wizard of Oz” By Kirsten Trambley From November 5-8, five Vienna High School students participated in Shawnee Community College’s 20th Annual Fall Children’s Theatre production, “The Wizard of Oz.” Four VHS seniors, Brad Childress, Kelin Field, Ashton Barger, and Caroline Bremer, and VHS sophomore, Kirsten Trambley, were all part of the 90+ member cast. Brad was cast as a member of the Cyclone Ensemble, a Winkie, and Zeke the farmhand on the Gale’s family farm.
