In a star-studded game highlighted by a strong group of under-25 phenoms, Brewers All-StarsRyan Braun and Francisco Rodriguez served as the veteran presence.

In the 's 6-3 victory in the 86th All-Star Game presented by T-Mobile in Cincinnati, Braun played in his franchise-record sixth All-Star Game with the club. It was No. 6 for Rodriguez as well, and his second with Milwaukee. Cardinals Yadier Molina was the only active player on the roster with more All-Star appearances than either Brewers player.

"They never get old," Rodriguez said. "I hope this isn't my last one. I hope to have another opportunity in the future."

Braun did all he could in his only of the night, leading off the bottom of the ninth inning with an 0-1 down the right-field line off Twins .

Braun scored the NL's third and final of the game in the following at-bat when San Francisco Brandon Crawford a sacrifice fly to left.

"The goal is to always contribute, always try to find a way to help your team win," Braun said. "We weren't able to do that tonight, but if I'm going to get in there, it's a lot better to get an extra-base hit and score a run than go 0-for- 1. It's always a lot of fun, just an incredible experience to be here. And it's nice to have a productive day on top of that."

The triple was Braun's second at the Midsummer Classic, as he also hit one at the 2012 All-Star Game in Kansas City. Braun is now 3-for-11 in his All-Star Game career.

Rodriguez was handed the ball for the seventh inning, given a tough act to follow after Jacob deGrom's dominating sixth frame.

Rodriguez faced five batters and allowed two earned runs on a hit, a walk and a sacrifice fly. It was the first time in Rodriguez's six All-Star appearances that he conceded an earned run.

"The fact that I'm here with these guys, I'm blessed," Rodriguez said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity and I just keep moving forward."

Braun made it a point to give props to the Reds and their fans for the atmosphere that the All-Star weekend provided.

"They did such a phenomenal job with the city," Braun said. "The energy and enthusiasm of the fans in Cincinnati was really special. It was fun to be a part of."

By Brandon Curry / MLB.com | July 15, 2015

MILWAUKEE -- For the second straight year, the Brewers and Miller Park played host to an international soccer friendly, and for the second straight year, Milwaukee soccer fans filled the seats.

Atlas Futbol Club of Mexican Liga MX and Newcastle United Football Club of the English Premier League played on a transformed Miller Park field Tuesday in front of a crowd of 21,256. The infield dirt and pitching mound were covered with temporary turf, while one goal was positioned in deep left field and the other near first base. The Mexican side ultimately prevailed, 2-1.

"Everything was excellent," Club Atlas manager Gustavo Matosas said of playing at Miller Park. "The field was excellent. The people who work here were spectacular."

Atlas forward Gonzalo Bergessio opened the scoring on a cool evening in the 11th minute after a sliding Jamaal Lascelles of Newcastle took him down in the box. Bergessio would get to his feet and net the awarded penalty.

Six minutes later, the 30-year old Argentinian, who signed with the club in June, was at it again. Bergessio managed to get behind Newcastle's defense and scored a volleyed goal off a perfect pass from midfielder Cristian Tabó.

"It was very important that he made those goals," Matosas said of Bergessio's first two goals with the club. "It will give him confidence moving forward."

Newcastle's only goal came just before the halftime whistle. The attacking duo of Papiss Cissé and Moussa Sissoko worked to beat Atlas' defense in the 45th minute, with the Frenchman Sissoko finishing a pass from .

The second half offered no scoring and limited chances from either club, but the event was once again a success.

"It was unusual," Newcastle manager Steve McClaren said of playing on a field. "But [the atmosphere] was great. The fans were tremendous."

Based out of Guadalajara, Club Atlas finished fourth last season in the Liga MX and has been a consistent member of the top Mexican division. Newcastle was founded in 1892 and plays in the Barclays Premier League, one of the most talented club leagues in world soccer.

Former catcher and current television analyst Bill Schroeder will be enshrined on the Brewers Wall of Honor at Miller Park in a pregame ceremony Friday.

The Wall of Honor, which was unveiled in 2014, commemorates Brewers players and broadcasters that meet a set criteria based on service to the club.

The Wall of Honor is located outside of Miller Park on the north side of the stadium adjacent to the Hot Corner entrance. Honorees on the wall have a plaque with their photo and a brief synopsis of their career.

The ceremony will be held before the Brewers' game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The longtime broadcaster will be accompanied by friends and family on the field and will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Schroeder returned for his 21st season in the Brewers broadcast booth this year. He began his career behind the mic as the Brewers' color man after retiring as a player.

Schroeder spent eight seasons in the big leagues with the Brewers and Angels, posting a career-best .332 batting average in 1987. He caught Juan Nieves' no-hitter on April 15, 1987 at Baltimore in the midst of the team's record-tying 13-0 start. In addition, he smacked a career-high 14 home runs with 42 RBI that season.

Last year's inaugural class included 58 members.

Cincinnati — It was a star-crossed night for Milwaukee Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez.

He came on in the seventh inning in a set-up role with the American League clinging to a 3-2 lead in the All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park.

It did not go well.

K-Rod gave up two runs on one hit as the AL went on to a 6-3 victory over the National League in the midsummer classic.

Mike Trout, the reigning AL MVP who homered in his first at-bat, led off against Rodriguez and walked. Brock Holt pinch ran and stole second with Baltimore's at the plate. Machado then doubled off wall in right-center to drive in Holt.

Rodriguez got to ground out to second, but Holt moved on to third. Former Brewer added insult to injury with a sacrifice fly to left. It was Fielder's second RBI of the game.

The outburst ended when J.D. Martinez grounded out to end the inning.

That left Rodriguez's ERA for the night at a lofty 18.00.

Milwaukee right-fielder , who was booed during the pregame introductions, pinch hit to lead off the ninth. He tripled to right off Minnesota's Glen Perkins and scored on Brandon Crawford's sacrifice fly. Warm welcome: Pete Rosecame home for the game and made a rare on-field appearance in the place where he's still treated like a king.

The hits king was voted one of Cincinnati's Franchise Four players as part of a Major League Baseball promotion. Rose and Hall of Famers , and were introduced on the field before the game.

The 74-year-old Rose was last out of the AL dugout. Fans started chanting "Pete! Pete!" when they saw him reach the top step, wearing a red jacket and tie.

He always gets a good reception in his hometown. This one was a bit more subdued than usual — derby champion Todd Frazier got a more raucous cheer, and the boos for St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina were louder, as well.

Even so, Rose acknowledged it was emotional.

"The only bad thing about being out there: I didn't get no at-bats," Rose said afterward. "I wish I had gotten a couple of at-bats. The fans were wonderful.

"I've been going through this love affair for 30 years. The fans are great."

What's next for Rose? He still has no idea.

Rose was banned for betting on baseball in 1989 and has a long-standing application for reinstatement pending. Commissioner said he hasn't yet scheduled a meeting with Rose to discuss it.

Rose's moment preceded the honoring of , , and Bench as baseball's greatest living players. Koufax, who attended the University of Cincinnati, threw out a ceremonial first pitch to Bench.

Robin Yount, , Rollie Fingers and were announced as the Milwaukee Brewers' Franchise Four.

Riding the cycle: A little on Trout's all-star success: He's played in the midsummer classic in each of his first four full seasons, and he's hit for the cycle with his first at-bats in the four appearances — and in order.

He has a single, double, triple and now a homer.

He's the ninth player to hit for the cycle in all-star history.

He's in pretty good company: , George Brett, , , Willie Mays, , Lou Whitaker and .

Plot twist: The NL used the Reds clubhouse, and one locker assignment brought a few smiles: Molina was assigned to ' locker.

Perfect symmetry there.

In 2010, the Reds angered the Cardinals by calling them a derogatory name in an interview. He tapped Molina's shinguard while leading off the next day as a sign of friendship, and Molina took exception. A brawl between the teams ensued.

Told that he was assigned Phillips' locker Tuesday, Molina laughed and said, "It is? I should write something for him. It's funny. You think they did that on purpose? I don't mind." Molina said the two of them have made amends over the years.

The write stuff: Hopefully no player has to go on the disabled list with writer's cramp.

NL players were asked to put their signature to 41 boxes of balls (a dozen per box). Also, 21 players put out their jerseys for signing and there were also 18 all-star jerseys set on a table running the length of the clubhouse.

On another table there were four red-and-white gloves and 37 red-and-white all-star bats plus six regular bats for signing.

The AL players had it only slightly easier: There were 17 boxes of balls, 15 all-star jerseys and 20 team tops, and 32 red-and-white bats.
