(vet) BP Ascorbic USP

Composition: Carbasalate Calcium BP 76.32 gm (Equivalent to 60 g of Acetyl- ) and Sodium Ascorbate USP 7.48 gm (Equivalent to 6.65g of Ascorbic acid)

Mode of Action: Carbasalate Calcium is a 1/1 complex of calcium acetylsalicylate and . Compared to (acetylsalicylic acid) Carbasalate calcium is soluble in water, allowing a better dissolution and therefore a higher therapeutic e ect. Aspirin is well known for its e ect against , and inammation.

Salicylates alleviate pain by virtue of a peripheral action; direct e ects on the CNS also may be involved.

Salicylates usually lower elevated body temperatures rapidly and e ectively. However, moderate doses that produce this e ect also increase oxygen consumption and metabolic rate. In toxic doses, this compound have a pyretic e ect that results in sweating; this enhances the dehydration that occurs in salicylate intoxication.

Vitamin C, a water soluble vitamin, may stimulate the body defences and complete aspirin action.

Indication: Renaspirin is indicated for , and anti-inammatory e ect on Poultry, Horses, Calves, Lambs, Swine, Dog

Dosage & Administration: Oral, in drinking water or liquid feed: 30-40 mg of acetylsalicylic acid per kg and per day, corresponding to:

Poultry : 0.5 g per liter of drinking water for 2-3 consecutive days.

Calves, lambs, horses, swine & dogs:

Body weight Dose Duration

Less than 50 kg 0.5 - 3 gm 2-3 consecutive days

50 - 150 kg 3 - 8 gm 2-3 consecutive days

Above - 150 kg 8-30 gm 2-3 consecutive days

Contraindication: The plasma concentration of Salicylates generally is little a ected by other , but concurrent administration of aspirin lowers the concentrations of indomethacin, and .

Adverse E ects: Dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting and occasionally .

Precautions: Stop treatment in case of digestive disturbance.
