2019 IBSA Youth World Championships a Huge Success in Penrith!

The 2019 IBSA Goalball Youth World Championships took place from 5th - 9th August at Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre, with 12 teams competing from eight different countries. Blind Sports NSW collaborated with and Goalball Australia to bid on and host the event, creating history for both NSW and Australia as a whole. “This marks the first time in Austral- ia’s 39 year Goalball History that our country has hosted any type of World Championships for the Paralympic sport of Goalball”, Tournament Director, Murray Elbourn said.

Defending Youth Girls’ champions, the Aussie Glow competed at a high level once again making it all the way to the Gold Medal match, only to fall short to a very strong Brazil team who took out the Gold. The Australian Youth Boys’ team gained valuable international experience in front of a very supportive home crowd, whilst competing in arguably the toughest group of Youth Boys’ teams in a number of years.

Blind Sports NSW would like to congratulate both Australian teams for their fantastic efforts during the Championships, in particular the following athletes who represented NSW:
