14 @TheNCHC | #NCHCHockey Feb. 26-Mar. 4, 2018 Standings Tiebreakers

TIEBREAKING PROCEDURES

Seeding of teams for the NCHC Tournament shall be determined by the final NCHC standings at the end of the regular season.

The Penrose Memorial Cup shall be awarded and positions for the NCHC Tournament determined, according to the following procedure. Shootout and 3-on-3 overtime results (other than the accumulation of points as a result of shootouts/3-on-3 overtimes) will not be used to help break ties in the standings for the Penrose Cup and/or playoff seeding.

1. If two or more teams are tied in the standings and all teams have played a balanced scheduled against one another (equal number of home and away games between all teams tied), the seeding for the NCHC Tournament shall be determined by the team with the best NCHC regular-season winning percentage among the games played against the other teams tied in the standings. If any of the teams tied have played an unbalanced schedule against any other team tied this criterion will not be used and the following criteria will apply;

2. If not determined by (1), the seeding for the NCHC Tournament shall be determined by the greater num- ber of NCHC regular-season wins;

3. If not determined by (1) or (2), the seeding for the NCHC Tournament shall be the team with the best NCHC regular-season winning percentage among the games played against the other teams tied in the standings, regardless of the schedule being balanced among the teams tied;

4. If not determined by (1) or (2) or (3), the seeding for the NCHC Tournament shall be determined by comparison of total goals for and against each team in contests between (among) the other teams tied in the standings in NCHC regular-season play;

5. If not determined by (1) or (2) or (3) or (4), the seeding for the NCHC Tournament shall be determined by comparison of the winning percentages of the teams tied in the standings against the remaining highest ranked NCHC teams, successively, until the determination is accomplished or all NCHC regular-season con- tests have been considered;

6. If not determined by (1) or (2) or (2) or (4) or (5), the seeding for the NCHC Tournament shall be deter- mined by the flip of a coin.

In the case of ties among three or more schools, the criteria will be used in order until a team, or teams, is separated from the pack. At that point, the process will begin anew to break the “new” tie. In other words, when a four-way tie becomes a three-way tie, the three-way tie is treated as a “new” tie and the process begins with the first criterion.
