BidSunday 2020

Welcome to BidSunday 2020, which is different this year due to the pandemic. While there’s no substitute for a physical gathering at the church, we hope you’ll enjoy this year’s virtual format.

How does BidSunday work this year?

There are two parts to BidSunday this year: the live auction, which takes place after the service on November 22, 2020, and the sale of fixed-price items, which you can sign up for until November 23 at 9 p.m. using the online forms mentioned below.

How do I participate in the live auction?

Use this Zoom link to join the live auction at noon on November 22, 2020 (or stay on Zoom after the service that day): http://bit.ly.ucmtl.sunday

To bid on the items that interest you, you’ll need to be able to use the chat function in Zoom. If you’re unable to do so, please find someone who can act as your proxy and bid on your behalf. (If you usually join the Zoom service by phone rather than by video, you’ll need to find a proxy to participate in the live auction.)

How do I buy fixed-price items?

Decide which items you’d like to purchase in the catalogue and note down their numbers, then go to the following links to indicate which items you’d like to buy:

• Form 1: Art and Treasures (items 11-29): http://bit.ly/bidsundayform1 • Form 2: Books, Audiobooks, Etc. (items 30-50): http://bit.ly/bidsundayform2 • Form 3: Food (items 51-75): http://bit.ly/bidsundayform3 • Form 4: Games & Puzzles, Gift Sets, In-Person Activities, Items for Kids (items 76-96): http://bit.ly/bidsundayform4 • Form 5: Kitchen Items (items 97-123): http://bit.ly/bidsundayform5 • Form 6: Music & Movies, Online Activities, Practical Items (items 124-147): http://bit.ly/bidsundayform6 • Form 7: Services, The Great Courses® (items 148-169): http://bit.ly/bidsundayform7

Make sure you fill out these forms by November 23, 2020, at 9 p.m.

Please note that indicating your interest in buying an item does not guarantee that you’ll get it. If more than one person is interested in the same item, a winner will be drawn at random using an online randomizer.

Who won the items I donated? What did I buy?

You’ll be notified by email (or by regular mail if you don’t use email) by December 4, 2020. If you donated items, you’ll receive a list of the names of the people who won or purchased your offer(s). If you purchased items, you’ll receive your bill as well as details about the items you purchased.

How do I get the physical items I purchased?

You’ll need to make arrangements with the donor(s) to receive your items: either to pick up the items yourself, to have them delivered or to meet the donor(s) at a designated location. If you need help with pickup (and the donor is unable to deliver), please contact the BidSunday team. Please note:

• Bills are payable immediately. Please make your cheque payable to the “Unitarian Church of Montreal” and put “BidSunday 2020” in the subject line. You may also pay your bill electronically. (Please contact Julie at [email protected] if you need help with that.) All proceeds from BidSunday go to the church’s operating fund. • According to regulations set by the Canadian Revenue Agency and Revenue Québec, monies paid for auction items are not considered donations and are therefore not eligible for income tax receipts. • All offers are valid until May 30, 2021. If for any reason the offer has not been claimed by that date, it becomes null and void. Wherever possible, dates for delivery of the offer are indicated in the catalogue. • Because of the church’s accounting system and federal tax rulings, refunds for uncollected offers are not allowed. When an offer is undelivered, negotiate with the person who made the offer, if possible, with the goal of working out another date or substitute item.

We understand that this year’s format may be technically challenging for some. If you have any questions or need help with anything, please contact us: • Avis Anderson at [email protected] or 514-932-6771 • Petrina Lee Poy at [email protected] or 514-485-5555 • Maychai Brown at [email protected] or 514-487-3236

Happy BidSunday!

The BidSunday Committee

P.S. We ran into a few technical issues with the BidSunday email during the submission period, so if your offer does not appear in the catalogue (and we haven’t been in touch with you), it’s because we didn’t receive it. We apologize for this and hope you’ll consider submitting your offer again for BidSunday 2021.
