Curriculum Map: Latin III Course: LATIN 3 Subtopic: Latin
Detailed In Latin III, students complete their mastery of basic Latin grammar and have the opportunity to read/translate from the Description: works of ancient Roman authors. After finishing the Ecce Romani II text, attention is turned to the Ecce Romani III text which recounts the history of the Republic and early Principate. Selections from Eutropius, Asconius, Cicero, Caesar, Livy, Augustus, and Pliny are translated and previously learned grammar is reinforced and more complex grammar is taught. Excerpts from these authors are designed to develop the student’s ability to read real Latin in preparation for Latin IV. Medieval Latin may also be introduced with the Bayeux Tapestry. History, culture and mythology continue to be part of the course and there are a variety of coordinating projects. Students are assessed through written, oral and aural exercises, tests and quizzes as well as written and sight translations, daily recitation and projects.
