BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders (2017) 18:410 DOI 10.1186/s12891-017-1768-x RESEARCHARTICLE Open Access The relationship between preoperative American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status Classification scores and functional recovery following hip-fracture surgery Li-Huan Chen1,2, Jersey Liang3,4, Min-Chi Chen5, Chi-Chuan Wu6, Huey-Shinn Cheng7, Hsiu-Ho Wang1 and Yea-Ing Lotus Shyu6,8,9,10* Abstract Background: Little is known about the relationship of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status Classification scores (ASA scores) on patient outcomes following hip fracture surgery in Asian countries. Therefore, this study explored the association of patients’ preoperative ASA scores on trajectories of recovery in physical functioning and health outcomes during the first year following postoperative discharge for older adults with hip-fracture surgery in Taiwan. Methods: The data for this study was generated from three prior studies. Participants (N = 226) were older hip-fracture patients from an observational study (n = 86) and two clinical trials (n =61andn = 79). Participants were recruited from the trauma wards of one medical center in northern Taiwan and data was collected prior to discharge and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after hospital discharge. Participants were grouped as ASA class 1–2 (50.5%; ASA Class 1, n =7;ASA Class 2, n = 107) and ASA class 3 (49.5%, n = 112). Measures for mortality, service utilization, activities of daily living (ADL), measured by the Chinese Barthel Index, and health related quality of life, measured by Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36, were assessed for the two groups.

PRESS RELEASE DATE: 30th September 2013 EMBARGO: Immediate Release Delegations from more than 60 communities set to gather in Xiamen, China for LivCom finals Representatives of more than 60 communities from around the world will gather in Xiamen, China, 28th November- 2nd December 2013 at the finals of the UN-backed International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom). Delegates will make the case for their towns and cities over four days of judging before a panel of world renowned experts in the field of municipal and environmental management. The winning communities in the global awards scheme for civic environmental achievement will be announced on Monday 2nd December. Organisers of the event, which has the support of UNEP, say a continued growth in community focus on sustainablity has sparked not only growing entries but increasing innovation in projects designed to resolve challenging issues in the spheres of socio-economic, built and natural environments. Finalists this year reflect a wide geographic spread with a growth in new communities making their debut at the finals. After a special award was made two years ago to Medillin in Colombia, for its efforts to tackle socio-economic and environmental issues linked to an historically strong drugs culture, the awards have increasingly seen the rise of progressive solutions to tackle global community problems. Founder and chief executive Alan Smith said: “We are looking forward to a highly competitive, educational and informative finals event with some of the leading innovators in the world going before the judges. “As well as sharing knowledge, these awards are a unique way of recognising the outstanding efforts being made by individuals committed to finding innovative answers to their communities problems.” A total of 42 towns and cities, 52 Sustainable Projects and six Bursary Award applications have reached the finals.

  • Regulatory Update - Indonesia
Regulatory Update - Indonesia Changes to Accredited Laboratory List for HKT Devices Further to PCS’s Regulatory Update dated 29th January 2020, the Indonesian Regulator - Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya dan Perangkat Pos dan Informatika (SDPPI) – has updated the accredited laboratories list whereby a paperwork Type Approval application process can be followed. This updated list is effective immediately, from 27th April 2020. As a reminder, a paperwork-only approach for applications to SDPPI is currently permitted for all devices if all test reports are from an SDPPI-accredited laboratory. In any other case, local testing is still required. This requirement is split into HKT devices (Cellular Phones, Handheld Computers, Computer Tablets) and non-HKT devices (all other categories). For HKT devices, the latest regulation, 107 Tahun 2020, containing the updated list of accredited labs is included as an attachment to this Regulatory Update. The text is in Indonesian language only. There are now 33 labs on this list, down from 45. For non-HKT devices, the latest notice, and the number of accredited labs, has remained the same since 29th January 2020. This is also included as an attachment to this Regulatory Update. There are 150 labs on this list. Both HKT and non-HKT lab lists are valid until 21st July 2020. The searchable table online on SDPPI’s website showing which labs are currently accredited for HKT and non-HKT products is here. ‘YA’ indicates that a lab is accredited; ‘TIDAK’ indicates that a lab is not accredited.
