TOM O’RYAN Award-winning racing journalist and broadcaster Tom O‘Ryan has died at the age of 61 after battling lung cancer. A leading apprentice, he became a successful jockey, as well as riding the likes of Sea Pigeon and Night Nurse in their work. He subsequently became a much-respected journalist, over the years working at Raceform, the Racing Post, the Sporting Life and York’s Press newspaper, as well as Racing UK, and was named Racing Journalist of the Year in 2002. Richard FitzGerald, CEO of Racing UK, paid tribute to O’Ryan: “Everyone at Racing UK is rocked by the tragic news of Tom’s passing. Tom was an integral and incredibly popular component of Racing UK’s presentation team for most of the channel’s lifetime. He was
