Services for December 2015 Parish teamed with Saturday 5th December , and Port Isaac 9.30 to Messy Church in Perceval Institute, St Minver, starting with a free 11am breakfast! Sunday 6th December 11.00am St Minver Parish Communion Rev Elizabeth Wild 3.00pm St Enodoc Evensong Mr Peter Coster Rev Elizabeth Wild and Martin 4.00pm St Minver Christingle Service St Enodoc St Menefreda St Michael’s Broadfoot 6.00pm St Michael’s Evensong Mr Peter Coster / Rev Elizabeth Wild Autumn Days and Winter Nights Sunday 13th December We have reached that time of year when the phrase “winter draws 9.15am St Michael’s Holy Communion Rev Andrew Lewis on” would seem most appropriate. It is unthinkable to us now but in Dr David Elliott / Geraldine Ashton / 11.00am St Minver Morning Praise the 1950’s that joke, with its obvious double meaning, was deemed Rev Elizabeth Wild as unfit for broadcast by the BBC. How times do change! But for 3.00pm St Enodoc Evensong Worship Leader/Kerstin Lewis some the onset of colder weather is no joke at all. For most of us the 6.00pm St Minver Carol Service Rev Elizabeth Wild/Dr David Elliott arrival of short days and long evenings is just another part of the year 6.00pm St Michael’s NO EVENSONG and one that has its own pleasures. Cosy nights by fire with a bit of Sunday 20th December tele or a good book; the curtains drawn against the storms and 11.00am St Minver Parish Communion Canon Judith Pollinger winter winds are, for most of us, a time to enjoy. It is just part of the 3.00pm St Enodoc Evensong Worship Leader / Rev Elizabeth Wild round of seasons. However for some people winter is something that 6.00pm St Michael’s Evensong Dr David Elliott / Sue Barlow is to be faced with dread. For those who are on their own this can be Christmas Eve Thursday 24th December a time of great loneliness. The difficulties of getting about on cold days mean that some folk don’t get out so much and lose contact 3.00pm St Enodoc 9 Lessons and Carols Mr Bill Nimmo even with those who are close by. Winter bills can stretch limited Crib service and 4.30pm St Minver Rev Elizabeth Wild Nativity Play budgets to breaking point so that the cost of staying warm becomes prohibitive. The bible tells us to “Love our neighbour as ourselves” --- NO MIDNIGHT SERVICE AT ST MINVER --- and there is surely no more important time to do this than when the Christmas Day frosts arrive. But loving our neighbour does not stop at the end of our Holy Communion with 9.15am St Enodoc Rev Andrew Lewis street. Winter days and especially nights are a brutal time for the Carols homeless and we give thanks for the work of St Petroc’s and all who Holy Communion with 9.15am St Michael’s Rev Elizabeth Wild work to ease the suffering of those without a roof over their head. So Carols as we stack our logs and prepare for the coming days let us spare Christmas Carol 11.00am St Minver Dr David Elliott more than a thought for those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
