Purpose/role within organization: Provide assistance to Audubon Zoo’s herpetology department in its daily activities aimed at caring for a diverse collection of and amphibians, as well as facility maintenance, record keeping, office clerical work, and possibly research.

This position will span a broad set of tasks related to the activities of the herpetology department. This may include assisting herpetology keepers with animal care tasks such as preparing animal diets and cleaning enclosures and service areas, building maintenance, record keeping, office‐related tasks, and possibly research.

General qualifications for position: This position will best serve individuals that are pursuing degrees and careers in the biological sciences. Candidates for this position must be comfortable working around live reptiles and amphibians and insects, have a genuine background and interest in biology, as have the ability to stand, squat, and sit for extended periods, work outdoors in a typical New Orleans climate, and be able to lift 50 lbs.

Pay: $10/hr (CBFWS students may also get paid for travel time)

Dates of employment: no earlier than August 19, 2019 through May 11, 2020

Evaluation procedure and schedule: All supervisors will evaluate student performance at the end of the academic year. The evaluation is online. Students may or may not be present while employers evaluate students.
