We want to welcome you to and our beautiful seaside coast!

The Scout and Guide Association of Croatia / Savez izviđača Hrvatske has the pleasure to invite you to the 16th European Guide Conference, the 23rd European Scout Conference and the 16th European Guide and Scout Conference.

This first information leter contains all relevant practical information needed for planning and organising your trip. Date 24-28 August 2019 The Conferences will start on Saturday, 24 August 2018, with preparatory sessions, networking and check-in, followed by the opening event, but you may book your accommodation from Friday depending on your travel possibilities. The Conferences will end on Wednesday, 28 August 2018, with departures on Thursday.

2 Conference fee EUR 520 - early bird till the end of April EUR 560 - regular fee from 1 May

The conference fee includes: • Atendance at the conferences • Opening and Closing Ceremonies • Saturday-Wednesday: lunch and dinner (except for one free evening) • Cofee breaks • International Evening • Croatian Evening • Interpretation (English/French) • Ofcial conference documents • Transportation between and the Conference venue on arrival and departure days only (other transfers should be arranged by yourselves) • A contribution to the conference participation solidarity fund • A contribution to the conference organisational costs of WAGGGS and WOSM

Conference registration will be handled online through the Conference website which will be an integral part of the main joint communication channel – htps://16egsc.europak-online.net

3 Accommodation Student Dormitory Kampus University Campus is newly built and located 3 kilometres east from the centre of the town. It is connected to the centre by bus public transport. Some of the rooms (looking towards south) have a beautiful view of the sea and the Dalmatian islands. All rooms are equipped with a shower, toilet, towels, bed sheets and wi-fi, but none of the available rooms has air-conditioning. Also, there are six rooms adapted for the disabled. Laundry is available at the dormitory building.

Facilities of the Campus include a gym, two outdoor sports grounds, restaurants, a meeting room, a bank, a convenience store, cofee shop (called Tinel), a self-service restaurant, a pastry shop and parking. Information about booking Campus meeting rooms and accommodation will be explained in detail in the following bulletins.

Price per person per room per night with breakfast: Twin - EUR 30 per person Single - EUR 35 per person

Breakfast includes beverages (milk, tea, white cofee, natural juice ...) spreads (marmalade, buter, honey, chocolate spread, hot cheese ...), salami and cheese, hot dishes (sausages, eggs, omelete, ...), buns (croissants, bread ...), cereals.

Alternative accommodation The host team will provide recommendations for alternative accommodation. You will find more details in following issues of the Conference Information Bulletin. Delegates who choose alternative accommodation are responsible for their booking as well as for related transportation to and from the Conference venue.

4 Visa Obtaining a visa is the responsibility of the individual participant and/or their member organisation.

Support leters will be issued by the host organisation on request only and once the participant is registered (please send your request to the Conference secretariat: [email protected]).

The process must begin well in advance of the conference date.

Requirements for issuing a visa are: • to apply for the visa at least 3 months prior to the event • to hold a passport (or another relevant document) with an expiry date 3 months afer the visa expiration • to hold a passport (or another relevant document) which is issued in the past 10 years

5 Transport Plane Split Airport is located 30 kilometres away from centre of Split, near the city of . During the summer flight schedule, Split Airport is directly connected with a lot of Euro- pean cities with more than 50 international routes to Split. To and from the airport The hosts will provide transportation from and to Split airport for participants on arrival days (on 23 and 24 August) and departure days (29 and 30 August 2019). In case your arrival/departure day is on other days there are diferent options to reach the venue/ airport: Direct Bus Line Transfer of passengers to/from Split is organized in cooperation with PLESO PRIJEVOZ firm. Information: htp://www.plesoprijevoz.hr/en Public Transport Close to Split Airport there is a bus stop of lines No. 37 (Split – Trogir; Trogir – Split) and No. 38 (Split Airport – Kastel Stari – Split; Split – Kastel Stari – Split Airport). Information: htp://www.promet-split.hr/en/ Taxi Taxis are available during Split Airport operating hours in front of the terminal. The reg- ular price for a trip between the airport and the Conference venue is about EUR 30 to EUR 35 . Telephone: ++385 (0)21 895 237 Uber Uber can be used in Croatia. You can download the app, set up an account using PayPal or a credit card and start arranging trips. Your credit card is debited automatically afer the journey is completed.

6 Other airports Airport is 250 kilometres away from Split and it takes around 3 hours by car to reach Split. is also well connected with Europe like Split airport. Airport is 150 kilometres away from Split. is mainly served with low- cost airlines such as . Bus Split is well connected by bus with Croatia and with surrounding countries. Every half hour a bus leaves from Split to . The bus terminal is located in the city centre. Train There are 3 daily trains from Zagreb to Split. One of these 3 trains is a night train which has a sleeping car service. Budapest is connected with Split with a direct train which goes 2 times per week. Car Car travel time from university campus to the city centre is approximately 15 minutes, depending on the trafc.

Split is well connected by modern motorway with Zagreb and Rijeka. Travel time to Zagreb on the motorway is 4 hours. In similar time it is possible to reach Slovenia, in 5 hours Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina is just 1 hour away. Montenegro and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia are also easy to reach by car. There is a parking at the venue.

Ferry During the summer season Split is connected with ferry lines to and Pescara in Italy.

7 General Split, Croatia’s second largest town, reigns as the economic and cultural centre of the Dalmatian Coast. Split lies on the Adriatic coast, central , on the Split (Marjan) peninsula. Although surrounded by sea as a peninsula, Split also borders with surround- ing mountains, including , Kozjak and Marjan hills. It is the second largest Croatian cargo harbour, but also one of the largest passenger harbours on the Mediterranean.

Split has a Mediterranean climate, characterised by dry and very hot summers and cool, but moderate and humid winters. Average temperature of the warmest month of the year is 22°C, and the coldest 4°C.
