Prairie View A&M University is one of a selected number of Texas Universities in which the traditional Campus Queen has the opportunity to become "Miss Texas" and ultimately "."

Contestants for "Miss Prairie View" compete in the preliminary pageant held at Prairie View during the month of April each year. The winner then enters the competition for the title of "Miss Texas," held in Fort Worth, Texas, during the month of July of each year. If "Miss Prairie View" wins in the "Miss Texas Pageant," she is then eligible to represent the State of Texas in the "Miss America Pageant", held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the month of September each year. Success in the Miss America Pageant gives Miss Prairie View the opportunity to represent the United States as its Queen and to compete in the Miss World Pageant.

To enter the preliminary pageant at Prairie View A&M University, each contestant must meet the following requirements:

1. Each contestant must be female, single, never have been married or had a marriage annulled, or had a child.

2. She must be a citizen of the United States.

3. She must be a Junior or Senior student in good standing with the University during her reign as Miss Prairie View.

4. She must have a cumulative 2.6 grade point average.

5. Her age on September 1, the year elected, shall not be less than 17 or more than 26. 6. She must be of good character ano possess poise, personality, intelligence, charm, and beauty of the'face and figure. \ j 7. She must possess and display talent in a performance of no more than two minutes and fifty seconds, including the introduction time. This talent may be singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, dramatic read­ ing, art display, dress designing, etc., or she may give a maximum two minutes and fifty seconds talk, including introduction, on the career she wishes to pursue.

8. She may be either amateur or professional.

9. She may be sponsored by clubs, organizations, individuals or businessses.

The Miss Prairie View A&M University Pageant is a scholarship pageant rather than a "." In keeping witn the Prairie View A&M University philosophy of promoting "SUCCESS" and recognizing scholarship and academic achievement, the following scholarship awards are provided by Prairie View A&M University for those winning contestants:

For Miss Prairie View - a $1,000 Scholarship

For the first runner-up - a $500 scholarship

For the second runner-up - a $300 Scholarship

The Miss Prairie View A&M University Scholarship Pageant is conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the MISS AMERICA PAGEANT. The winner and runners-up are selected in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Miss America Pageant. PRAIRIE VIEW AOM UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS
