GENERAL INFORMATION

Introduction The Intermediate Sports Day program for years 7 and 8 is an Intermediate school focused event designed to encourage young children to participate in and recreational activities. This is a continuation of sports and games to level that is above the capacity of years 1 – 6.

The fundamentals are that we facilitate activities that encompass all the required sports skills but using games of a different nature. We call these “Minor Games!”

What an Intermediate Sports Day entails Students spend the day at the Trustpower Arena indoor facility competing in sports such as: 1. Backboard Ball 2. 3. Floorball (Indoor ) 4. Indoor , 5. Non-Stop 6. Danish Long ball 7. 1 .

Backboard Ball This a modified version of . The general rules of basketball apply e.g. no travelling or running with the ball, except the goal is to score by one team member throwing the ball against the backboard and someone from their team catching it on the full to score points. About building team work and is not reliant on player.

Futsal (Indoor ) This is a basic game of football but in an indoor environment. There are key rule differences like keeping the ball close to the ground. The balls are smaller and easier to kick and have a lesser capacity to bounce up to high. They must stay within the lines of the court as well.

Floorball () This exciting new sport is very similar to indoor hockey but played inside a 50cm high rink. There are 5 players on each team including the goalie and the aim is to score as many goals as possible into the opposing goal.

Indoor bowls This is regular outdoor bowls but played inside. The idea is bowl the bowl closest to the jack. This activity is to teach the art of controlling weight or power when a ball and also judging distance and control. Less intense in terms of vigorous nature of the game but teaches some important skills as outlined earlier.

1 Touch This is a modified version of touch involving passing and moving in all directions. It is about getting into space, communication and using a limited of chances with the ball to score tries. It breeds creativity in play and is fast in nature.
