  • ALPB League Unveils Freedom and Liberty Division Rosters for Mid-Summer Classic
ALPB league unveils Freedom and Liberty Division rosters for Mid-Summer Classic Posted by MJ On 07/06/2019 The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) today announced the rosters for the 2019 Atlantic League All-Star Game, which will be held next Wednesday at PeoplesBank Park, home of the York Revolution. The 22nd annual ALPB Mid-Summer Classic will feature Freedom and Liberty Division players selected by fans and team officials in a matchup beginning at 7:30 p.m. “Our fans again stepped up and championed their favorite players to create two great rosters,” said Atlantic League President Rick White. “We want to thank the thousands of fans who voted and the team officials who helped us shape another terrific All-Star Game, and we congratulate the players selected. It’s going to be a great event.” The Liberty Division roster (see below) will feature 25 players – eight Somerset Patriots, seven High Point Rockers, six Long Island Ducks, and four New Britain Bees – led by 18-year Atlantic League veteran player and coach Enohel Polanco, bench and third base coach of the hosting York Revolution. The Liberty Division will be the “visiting” team for the All-Star Game. The Freedom Division team will consist of 23 players – eight Revs, six Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, five Lancaster Barnstormers, and four Sugar Land Skeeters – and be managed by Revolution skipper Mark Mason, the 31-year veteran coach/manager and the winningest manager in Revolution history. Mason’s Freedom Division team will serve as the “home” team for Wednesday’s game.

UNI BASEBALL CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF WINNING Dating back to 1893, no University of Northern Iowa athletic team has won more games than the Panther baseball program. This season, UNI baseball opens its lOOth season with 952 wins all-time. (No baseball team was fielded in 1903-04, 1909-10 and 1943-45.) Originally begun when the school was known as Iowa State Normal School, the baseball team has represented the school when it was also known as Iowa State Teachers College and the State College of Iowa before assuming its present title in 1967. Starting in the years with Captain Avery as coach of the first two squads, the Panthers have built a program that thrives on hard working young men dedicated to being the best they can be on the diamond and in the classroom. Last year was no exception, as five Panthers; Ryan McGuire, Kevin Briggeman, Greg Woodin, Scott Sobkowiak and Aaron Houdeshell were named academic all-MVC by the sports information directors of the league.

Gibble, ‘09 Preface This second iteration of The Integral Curriculum and Its Alumni continues the on-going Integral Alumni Council (IAC) Biographies Project. The Council's intention is to supplement the collection continuously, aiming ultimately to chronicle, as accurately as we can as lives move on, each and every one of the Curriculum's alumni, who now number some 735. Special thanks are owing to IAC Board Member, Tim Cahill '72—CEO, Charles Bell, Co., attorney, playwright and world traveler—who conceived the project and continues to gather life stories. The Integral Curriculum of Liberal Arts—familiarly, the Integral Program—has been conducted at Saint Mary’s since 1956. It is a four-year curriculum devoted to conversational inquiry into the great books and leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. A brief history of the Program and statement of its mission follow. The first class was graduated in 1960. This collection of 81 biographies spans the entire history of the Program, up to a member of the class of 2020. The collection stands—and future, expanded iterations will stand—as testimony to the truth of two propositions. The first is enunciated by the achievements recorded—and to be recorded—in the on-going collection. Although, over the last 60 years, society, the economy, and workplaces have changed many times over, the Integral Program, unchanged in conception and continuous in execution, graduates liberal artists whose lives and achievements demonstrate their education's timeless relevance: from one Program, a galaxy of excellences.
