• Announced that all ‘Initiation’ programs in the country will be mandated to be half ice beginning in 2017-18

• Announced that all ‘Novice’ programs in the country will be mandated to be half ice beginning in 2019-20 • Strongly recommend to begin in 2018-19 • BC has implemented this program for 2017-18

• Benefits to ½ ice programs include • Increased puck touches • Increased completed passes • Increased shots on goal • Increased pace of play Highlights – Hockey Alberta • Participant Fees remain same for 2017-18 season • Continued Focus on Coach Development • HA Coach Conference in July 8 & 9 • Developing Regional Lead Instructors • HA now responsible for all Coaching Clinics (no NSA)

Total Registration – 14,417 (+.4%) Year In Review… Game & Conduct • Continued thanks to the Discipline Committee, for their dedication in keeping the game safe for all • Outgoing Director – Jill Cameron • Incoming Director – Ward Stene • Thanks to all Associations for their continued support and contribution to the process in their communities • ‘16/17 saw 36 Indefinite Suspensions, with majority in Midget Age Category • New Slew Foot Penalty (11)and Discriminatory Slurs (12) were majority of calls • Parental behavior in and around the rink continues to be area of concern Officials (CZRC) • Partnership between HC & CZRC continues to improve, key wins included: • Officials presented at numerous Association Coach Kick off meetings in efforts to build partnership and explain view from the ‘officials perspective’ • Associations partnered with CZRC to operate increased ‘Refresher Clinics’ this season (20+) • HC continues to work with CZRC with regards to the online reviews on officials • Continued focus on mentorship for officials

• Community assigning (Goalline) program was expanded to include all Associations

• Will look at social media as a possible option to educate and share info to young officials Rec Hockey

• Rec Hockey remains strong , 52 teams this year, • 8 Pee Wee, • 12 Bantam, • 18 Midget, • 14 Junior • Team Sportsmanship Awards • 32 in total, this season • Up from 26 last season • ATB has decided not to renew sponsorship, RHC would like to thank them for their past support Girls Hockey • Continued growth in registration (over 100 girls, +17% VYA) • Rebranded full program in partnership with the Calgary Inferno CWHL Program • Ran Successful ‘Try Hockey’ program with over 150 girls new to the game • Moved Atom teams from RMFHL, back to the Atom City league (total of 6 teams) • Increased focus on Mentorship for all programs • Atom team competed on Scotia Hockey Heroes program, winning the national contest • GHC teams won 3 provincial championships • Congratulations to GHC for being awarded Hockey Calgary Association of the Year. Elite Hockey • Very competitive season for all AAA & AA programs in the city • Special congratulations to: • CNHA M15 Canucks, Sutter Cup Champs and silver medalists at Provincials • CBHA Rangers – Bronze at Provincials • Elite Council is revising Bantam AA playoff & OT rules after issue this season • Special Acknowledgement to long term member Kris Katsaounis of CRAA Community Hockey Key Initiatives 2016-17

• Partnered with HA, Comrie’s Sports Equipment Bank & Pro Skate Goalie Shop & Calgary Flames Community House League • Proving very successful, over 1000 kids registered for program this season, continued growth • Novice & Atom age groups, with some Zones adding Pee Wee • Reduced Season Length • No tournaments • No Extra fundraising • Lower overall cost • Policy Manual Developed • Alignment Across city & new title sponsor!! ‘Non-Body Checking’

Divisions• Expanded Non-Body Checking from Bantam Divisions to Midget • Focus on skill development, injury reduction and keeping kids in game longer • 50% of players in in these divisions still play with body checking • Edmonton has followed HC lead and Non Body Checking divisions now exist in all leagues below division #2 • HC will continue with Non-Body Checking Divisions in 2017-18 for divisions 4 and below in both bantam and midget Atom League Structure – Pilot Project • Reduced # of divisions from 13 to 6 in the atom Division • Introduced regional play and balanced teams in divisions 4-6 • Initial Results were polarizing, but for the most part positive • Operation Council has agreed to test again in 2017-18 with some modifications • North/South play • Move to 7 divisions • Executed 3 Sessions • Partnership with Bauer & Hockey Canada • 6 week ‘Try Hockey’ Program • $199 cost • Includes Equipment • Goal is to ‘Grow the Game’ Other Initiatives 2016-17
