John Good Housekeeping Good Housekeeping Mrs. Eaves was created by designer Zuzana Licko in 1996.

A revival of the classic Baskerville ypeface, Mrs. Eaves relecs Licko’s interes in “loosening” up Baskerville by reducing contras while keping the ypeface open and light. Mrs Eaves is named ater Sarah Eaves, the woman who became ’s wife. As Baskerville was sexing up his printing and ype business, Mrs. Eaves moved in wih him as a live-in housekeper, eventually

becoming his wife ater the death of her 0rs husband, Mr. Eaves. Hints of the Helvetica Neue ypeface can be found throughout the series as well. Mrs Eaves is a revival of the ypes of English printer and punchcuxer John Baskerville, and is related to Baskerville ypefaces. The Nitty-Gritty

Ligatures have several funcions in the sexing of ype. Some ligatures are necessary to avoid the collision of particular lexer combinations.

For example, the pacing problem bewen the “f” and “i” characers can be resolved by replacing the pair wih a separately designed “0” . fish 0sh 0fishsh

The joining of lexers, of course, comes rom our alphabet’s roots in handwriten forms. When the alphabet was subsequently adapted to print in the form of movable ype, i continued to include many ligatures. Eventually for the sake of expediency, all but the mos necessary ligatures were dropped rom the sandard characer set. Even today, the sandard characer set accommodates only the mos common ligatures; 0 l * + a o Conjoined Twins + Triplets K L M N O A B C D E U V W X Y F G H I J P Q @ S T Z + * & R 1 2 3 4 5 9 7 8 6 ^ % $ Not-So Dearest Shakespeare
