Basic Workmanship 2.1. BS8000: BASIC WORKMANSHIP: Where BS 8000 gives recommendations on particular working methods or other matters which are properly within the province and responsibility of the Contractor, compliance therewith will be deemed to be a matter of general industry good practice and not a specific requirement of the Project Manager under the Contract.

If there is any conflict or discrepancy between the recommendations of BS 8000 on the one hand and the project documents on the other, the latter will prevail.

Electrical Installations 2.2. All electrical works to comply with Met Office General Specification for Electrical Works (Version 1.4 dated 7 th November 2008) and BS7671:2008.

Preamble 1) All work to be undertaken in accordance with Section One ( Preliminaries & General Clauses) and Section Two (Specification of Materials and Workmanship) as scheduled below and detailed on drawings.

2) Unless specifically stated otherwise the Contractor is to allow for the disposal of all debris and waste arising from the works.

No asbestos has been identified externally on generator and associated RRR equipment. Contractor to dispose of in appropriate manner.

.6 Supply, install and connect new 10 way module Essential Distribution Board with RRR 100A main switch as Legrand 606502, located within radar room as shown on drawing HAM004A.

.7 Supply, install and connect suitably rated cables from Non-essential Distribution RRR Board to UPS by-pass panel (supplied by others), and from UPS by-pass panel to Essential Distribution Board. UPS will be supplied and installed by others.

.8 Supply, install and connect 3 off “Self Test Emergency Lights” as Protec Ribble RRR ST/RL8/P/NM3, or similar equivalent quality, complete with European directive format exit legend.

.9 Supply, install and connect 2 off 1.5kW electric convector heater with thermostatic RRR control, as Dimplex EVS150, or similar equivalent quality.

.10 Re-wire following circuits as Electrical Schematic HAM001A and drawing RRRR HAM004A. To prevent nuisance tripping of operational equipment, circuits are not to use rcd or rcbo protective devices.

Appendix B – Met Office Site Rules

In this document, the term 'contractor' includes the contractor, his employees, sub-contractors or other persons brought on site by the contractor. These rules apply equally to all Met Office sites, whether the work is undertaken inside or outside the building.

1. The local safety regulations and rules must be observed at all times.

2. The Met Office observes a no-smoking policy.

3. Security passes will be issued (for access to designated sites) and must be worn at all times whilst on the premises. Passes must be returned to security staff or the Met Office sponsor if the contractor leaves site for any duration.

4. Parking of any vehicle (whether car, van, lorry etc.) is at the discretion of the Met Office and entry to the premises cannot be assumed. Where permission is granted, all parking restrictions (e.g. yellow lines) are to be observed.

5. Radios, or any other music device, must not be used on site.

6. Mobile phones or similar devices may not be used where site conditions or local site rules dictate. Outstations: may be required for safety.

7. The use of photographic or video devices will not be allowed except on the authority of Head: Health, Safety and Security.

8. Contractors will not have access to the interior of the building unless required by the tasks on which employed, nor can access to welfare or catering facilities be assumed.

9. Where access to the building is granted, shoes or boots must be free of mud, dirt or other contaminating material.

10. Materials will not normally be brought into or removed from the building by the main entrance, where possible.

11. All debris will be removed and the workplace left in a clean, tidy and safe condition.

12. If waste skips are required, the approval of the Contract Sponsor must be sought. If approved, the location and timing will be subject to negotiation with the Contract Sponsor. It should not be assumed that waste may be disposed of in Met Office receptacles.

13. On no account may hazardous waste of any description be disposed of in Met Office waste receptacles.

14. Where it is necessary for the contractor to perform his work in rooms in which Met Office staff continue to work, this must be factored into the risk assessment/method statement covering the work activity. Noise and inconvenience must be kept to a minimum.

15. Hard hats and other protective clothing must be worn in all designated areas or if identified in the risk assessment/method statement documentation.

16. Cartridge fixing tools are not to be used without prior approval of the Met Office Property Management and the Health, Safety and Security Team.

17. Contractors will observe the fire procedures pertaining to the site and will act upon the instructions given to staff generally regarding the evacuation of the building and mustering at assembly points.

18. Hot work (work which involves naked flames, heat or sparks) is not to be undertaken without prior

approval of the Property Management and the Health, Safety and Security Team. This work is subject to Permit to Work procedures and fire alarm isolation.

19. The requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 particularly in respect of portable appliance testing shall be met; 110-volt or battery powered equipment shall be used where appropriate unless specific permission for 230-volt power is sought from the Health, Safety and Security Team (through the Contract Sponsor).

20. Electrical tools etc. must not be connected to any socket or circuit in computer rooms without the authority of the Contract Sponsor in liaison with the duty Officer.

21. Warning signs, safety barriers and/or screening (all provided by the contractor) are to be erected where required.

22. Trade, direction or other contractor's advertising signs are not to be erected on Met Office property without prior approval.

23. Asbestos: Contractors should request sight of the Asbestos Survey for the Building where applicable before commencing any alteration works. Should any suspected material be uncovered this must be reported immediately to Property Management.
