After signing a contract with the Western Force in his final year of school in which he won the Queensland Schoolboy of the Year and the Bronze Boot in the Australian Schoolboys vs. New Zealand match, David was immediately in the spotlight of Australian Rugby when he was banned from playing for the Western Force as he was not yet 18 at the start of 2006. Instead David played for the Australian U/19 team that won the IRB U/19 Junior World Championship in Dubai. Three weeks later, David made his Super 14 debut aged 18 and 20 days, starting at openside flanker versus the Sharks in Durban. In 2007, ‘Bam Bam’ played his first full season of Super 14, earning a place in the Australia A team in the Pacific Nations Cup. In 2007 ‘Bam’ was awarded the ‘RUPA Newcomer of the Year Award’. 2008 was an even bigger year with a solid Super 14 season with the Force, winning the clubs ‘Force Man of the Year’ award. This was followed by captaining the Australian U/20 team (and receiving the Australian team’s ‘Player’s Player’ award) at the Junior World Championship in Wales. David then captained the Western Force on a five match tour of the United Kingdom, before returning back to the UK to join the Wallabies on their Spring Tour. In 2010 David made the Wallabies infamous number 7 jersey his own after strong performances in the tri nations, bledisloe cup encounters and the recent Spring Tour of Europe.2010 will be the year remembered that David Pocock came of age as a world-class open side flanker and was nominated as 2010 IRB Player of the year only to lose this award to the great All Blacks captain Richie McCaw. http://www.rugbywa.com.au/news/2010/ewf_news/november/201011 26_pocock_irb_player_of_the_year_nominee,59654.html/section/50 753 David was born in and moved to Australia 8 years ago, where he instantly began to represent Queensland in both and Water Polo at a schoolboy level. However in years to follow David shifted his focus purely to Rugby, a decision which has certainly paid off. David’s current success with the Wallabies and Western Force has come via his enthusiasm for the game and his ability to push himself to the limits on the training track. David is not one to relax and rely on his natural ability, as he is a modest person and finds the best way to continuously improve is through personal reflection and evaluation of his performances. This attitude explains his progression through Rugby and the achievements he has reached to date. David ‘Bam Bam’ Pocock is a force to be reckoned with, and Wallaby supporters will be happy to know that he will be wearing the Green and Gold for many years to come having been touted as the future Wallbies captain. CLICK HERE David led the Western Force well in 2010 in what was a tough year for the team. Injury unfortunately interrupted his Super 14 season but he has come back bigger and stronger, and will wear the number 7 once again in the Wallabies upcoming International Series. David was also scooped up quickly by the Force renewing his contract for a further two years. Outside of Rugby, David is a down to earth person who enjoys spending time with his family and friends. ‘Bam’ enjoys getting out of the city, and loves the ocean. He’s always up for an adventure, and even managed to conquer Mt Kilimanjaro (the tallest mountain in Africa) between the Force’s UK tour and the Wallabies 2008 Spring Tour. He’s also been getting into his surfing since moving to Perth in 2006. Reflective of his attitude to life and knowing how fortunate he is to be blessed with such ability and opportunities, David is working on a new charity project. Still in its infant stages David is putting all his spare time in the not-for-profit organisation ‘Eighty Twenty Vision’, in hope that one day he and his hard work can make a major difference.
