Small group (12 max.) camping and small hotel bicycle tour of the Rift Valley and western . Cycling Conditions: 500 kilometers (km), 300 miles (mi), primary route low volume paved roads (off road options), altitude 3,000-8000 ft, some hills. Weather Conditions: Highs in the 80'sF (20'sC), lows in the 40'sF (10'sC), chance of rain.

DAY 01 Sun Arrive in Nairobi, transfer to the hotel, check-in. Accommodations: Suncourt Inn (E, scBh, scT) Dinner: restaurant

DAY 02 Mon NAIROBI (elev 1661) Assemble bicycles, tour the town (10km, 6mi), Points of interest: Uhuru Park, Nat. Museum, Nairobi Univ., Norfolk Hotel, Kenyatta Ctr, Law Courts, Parliment, Grand Mosque, bookshops, curio shops, bicycle shops. Cycling conditions: Paved, a few small hills. DAY 03 Tue Nairobi-MASAI MARA Motor Safari to the grasslands of Masai Mara National Park. Enroute we pass through Maasai lands, the traditional inhabitants of the area. Accommodations and dinner: camping (tents provided, L)

DAY 04 Wed MASAI MARA A full day of game drives in the National Park. Accommodations and dinner: camping (tents provided, L)

DAY 05 Thu Masai Mara-NAIROBI Returns to Nairobi, prepare for tomorrow's bicycling. Accommodations: Suncourt Inn (E, scBh, scT) Dinner: Restaurant

DAY 06 Fri Nairobi-LIMURU (35km, 21mi) (elev 2060m) Depart Nairobi to the northwest. The landscape and roadside activity quickly changes from urban to suburban to rural. Points of interest: UNEP H.Q., mixed agriculture, coffee, Lamuru Boys Center, tea, waterfall Cycling conditions: paved, congested for the first 5mi, generally climbing. Accommodations: Waterfall Inn (E, Sh, T, Dorm) Dinner: restaurant

DAY 07 Sat Limuru- (60km, 37mi) (elev 1880m) The elevation of the valley rim keeps the air cool. Points of interest: pyrethrum, conifer forest, temperate agricultural and the spectacular geological formations caused by movements of the Somaliand African Plates, 2 view points, curios. Cycling conditions: paved, a gradual climb for the first 17mi, downhill for 18mi to the valley floor. Due to the altitude this is a deceptively tough haul. DAY 08 Sun NAIVASHA (60km, 37) Day trip to Hell’s Gate National Park. Points of interest: Ecology, geology, flora and fauna around Naivasha and in Hells Gate National Park Cycling conditions: flat, partially paved, partially gravel/dirt. Accommodations: Sam-Holiday Hotel (E, scSh, scT) Dinner: Sunset Café

DAY 09 Mon Naivasha- (75km, 45mi) (elev 1850m) Ride north along the floor of the Rift Valley. Points of interest: Wildlife, Kariandus Prehistoric Site, wheat, papyrus and Prehistoric Site developed by Dr. Leaky, , changing vegetation patterns. Cycling conditions: paved, relatively flat, net drop 30m, reststop at Gilgil. Accommodations: Seasons Hotel (E, scSh, scT) Dinner: Kabeer Restaurant

DAY 10 Tue NAKURU Tour national park, climb mountain, or day ride to Kericho or Sibukia. Points of interest: Nakuru National Park, Mt Menegai Accommodations: Seasons Hotel (E, scSh, scT) Dinner: Gilani's Restaurant

DAY 11 Wed Nakuru- (100km, 62mi) (elev 1069) This is primarily a range, with small trading centers. Ponits of interest: Sisal estate and factory, herding, Perkerra Scheme, papaya wine. Cycling conditions: paved, initial climb then descents and rolling. Accommodations: Marigat Inn (E, scS, scT) Dinner: Marigat Inn

DAY 12 Thu Marigat- (16km, 10mi) (elev 975m) Short ride with a leisurely afternoon on the lake shore Points of interest: Lk Bargoria hotsprings (80km roundtrip), Pakot people (25km roundtrip), snake park, hippos, crocodiles, Cycling conditions: paved, slightly rolling Accommodations: Baringo Club (E, scSh, scT) Dinner: Baringo Club

DAY 13 Fri Lk Bagoria-NAIROBI Bus back to Nairobi. Points of interest: Center, Bomas of Kenya Accommodations: Suncourt Inn (E, scBh, scT) Dinner: Farewell Dinner
