MONTANA BADLANDS HIGHLIGHTED IN UM TELEVISION FEATURE PROGRAM
MISSOULA --
The University of Montana’s award-winning television series "Backroads of Montana" searches for saddles, scenery and sunsets in southeastern Montana s Badlands on the newest episode of the program.
"The Badlands," the eighth installment of "Backroads," will air statewide at 9 a.m. Sunday,
July 21, on KPAX-TV (channel 8) in Missoula. KTVQ (channel 2) in Billings, KXLF-TV
(channel 4) in Butte. KRTV (channel 3) in Great Falls. KAJ-TV (channel 18) in Kalispelj and
KXGN-TV (channel 5) in Glendive.
The travels begin with a trip to the Cameron Gallery in Terry. Other stories include a stop at Makoshika State Park near Glendive with dinosaur hunter "Doc" Hiatt; a visit to the Medicine
Rocks near Ekalaka; the craftsmanship of a saddle maker in Ekalaka; and a conversation with a pair of Wibaux’s homesteading pioneers. The show begins at Ulm Pishkun State Park near Great
Falls and ends with a trio of Rvegate retirees who have combined woodworking and birdwatching
along Highway 12.
Marcus, a well-known Montana Public Radio personality, is director ot UM s Broadcast
Media Center. The series is produced by Marcus, Gus Chambers and Ray Ekness ot UM s
Broadcast Media Center.
Copies of the first seven programs in the series are available statewide at more than 140
-more- city, county and college libraries. The eighth program will be available at the libraries this fall.
"Backroads of Montana" recently won its third Program of the Year award from the
Montana Broadcasters Association and is funded by grants from the Greater Montana Foundation,
Travel Montana and UM. m
