On behalf of the Secretary-General I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 29 October (ref.: CU/AF/GUI Vol.3) regarding the proposal by Mr. Ousman Kaba to establish a private university in the name of Mr. Kofi Annan. I attach a copy of your * letter for ease of reference.

I wish to inform you that the Secretary-General does not wish the university to be named after him. I would be grateful if you could ensure that this is conveyed both to Mr. Kaba and to the Guinean authorities. t Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.

The Embassy of the Republic of presents its compliments tc the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana and has the honour to inform the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana of the establishment of the first private university in Guinea by Mr Ousman KABA.

I It is a^ university named after Kofi ANNAN, will accommodate the students i who have successfully passed their baccalaureat. - / • i' ! Mr Ousman KABA, ex-Minister said, he had chosen the name of Kofi Annan foljPthig university for three reasons, namely:

! 1) that Kofi ANNAN is ghanaian;

2) that Ghana is a West African country;

3) that Ghana is a good friend to Guinea.

Furthermore, this realisation will be registered in the permanents files

of the Ghana-Guinea cooperation and to the honour of the Co-Presidents of Guinea:

Kwame N'Krumah and Ahmed Sekou TOURE. /
