34 35 PROGRAMMES IN OXFORD With its winding streets, stunning architecture, and beautiful skyline, Oxford is without doubt one of the most beautiful cities in Europe – a city which poet Matthew Arnold called “the city of dreaming spires”.

The city is renowned across the world for the University of Oxford – ranked by Times Higher Education as the best university in the world in 2018, which is perhaps why the city is so rich in history, education, philosophy and culture.

Oxford’s iconic and inspiring architecture has featured in many movies. Hogwarts – the famous school of witchcraft and wizardry from Harry Potter – is set in Oxford. The city also features in the Transformers and Cinderella movies.

Unsurprisingly, Oxford boasts many famous attractions like The Covered Market – a trading post which dates back to 1774. The Pitts Rivers Museum, Oxford Castle and Blenheim Palace are also must-sees!

BlueSky students can opt to stay in Oxford over London if they wish to have a more quaint and quintessentially English experience.

80 81 RACE AGAINST TIME SINGAPORE PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHT

What is Race Against Time? It is a leadership-based activity and city excursion that combines many of the skills that students will learn during their time at BlueSky. These include teamwork, logic, intuition, following instructions, confidence and speaking English.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

• Students are split into groups and each group has to

complete a series of tasks across the city of Singapore.

They are taught how to use the public transport and

local currency and have to make their way to different

points around the city to complete each task and win

points.

• Examples of tasks would be asking members of the

public a set of questions in English, creating a vlog

about the place they are in, buying an item in the shop

for $5 and trying to sell it for more money etc.

• This activity gives students the freedom to explore the

city at their own pace and discover all the different

neighbourhoods and diverse cultures that Singapore

has to offer

• All groups are accompanied by an adult for safety but

the adults do not help them

• Check-points include: Tiong Bahru, Raffles Place,

Chinatown, Lau Pa Sat hawker centre and many more
