The porch, with a skylight, opens to a generous reception hall, with a rising oak, bespoke staircase. There is an attractive combination of oak flooring and quality tiled floors, complimented by matching doors throughout the ground floor. From the reception hall, there is access to the study and the living room with views to the east, capturing the morning sun. Double doors open to the wonderful family room, with an impressive fireplace and a large box bay which almost brings the garden into the house, offering distant views across the neighbouring farmland.

Uplands Pages.indd 4 26/01/2021 08:07 The fabulous kitchen/breakfast room is the centrepiece of the house, newly fitted with granite work surfaces and a central island. There are plenty of cupboards at base and eye level and a beautiful range cooker. The windows on three sides bring ample light into the kitchen but it also has a range of its own lighting, above and at floor level. In addition, there is a cosy corner with a wood-burner and throughout this ground floor area there is beautiful oak style flooring and underfloor heating. The generous utility lies adjacent.

A magnificent glass atrium leads from the kitchen to the newly created dining room which offers a significant amount of space and various uses. From here there is a lovely vista of the garden and the countryside beyond from the wide-opening bi-fold doors. There is a spacious bathroom on the ground floor too, attractively divided with a large shower cubicle and sumptuous bath. This room also benefits from underfloor heating.

It was my wife who found Uplands back in 2006 and it was the rural location that initially attracted us. When we came to visit the property, we instantly knew that we wanted to live here when we saw the views overlooking the surrounding rolling countryside,” recall the current owners.

“We knew that it would require a fair bit of work, but we were excited by the potential and our renovation journey was an interesting one, involving wildlife and beehives at times but that’s a different story! The major change came in 2016 when we added the 2-storey extension which gave us an additional bedroom, utility room and a fabulous kitchen, as well as the dining room which is approached via a glass atrium. It’s a stunning feature.”

“The location is fabulous. It’s such a beautiful area and there are ample opportunities to explore the countryside on foot, bike, or horse. We came really close to winning the Best Kept Village and we’re lucky to have a great village shop which stocks all of the day-to-day essentials. It is very rural but everything we need is easily accessible. We’re surrounded by fantastic restaurants, but we need go no further than our own village pub as the food there is so good. Booking is definitely advised. There is a great sense of community here and the summer fairs are always very well supported.”

“The house and garden are ideal for entertaining. The hallway is a lovely space that showcases the beautiful oak staircase, and it would be perfect for a little ceremony for up to 30 guests. The dining room opens to the large patio area via bifold doors which creates a huge indoor/outdoor entertaining space. Set on a half-acre plot, at least half of it is garden and laid to lawn, so there’s plenty of room for games with family and friends. It’s also a very relaxing garden that has amazing views of the beautiful countryside. We’ve even seen muntjac deer on the lawn.”

“The kitchen and dining area are the heart of the home. It’s always warm and cosy thanks to the underfloor heating and all it needs is a couple of grand old chairs next to the stove which would make it the perfect spot for an afternoon snooze,” conclude the current owners.

There are four further double bedrooms. The quality of the bathrooms are exceptional throughout.

The property is approached via electric wooden gates providing both privacy and security, with an intercom system. Beyond the gates there is block paved parking for several cars and a detached double garage. An external staircase leads from the rear of the garage to a studio above. This elevated position provides the best views of all!

There is access via both sides of the property to the rear garden. The house sits in a plot which measures half an acre and the garden is mainly laid to lawn with an attractive terrace adjacent to the house, taking advantage of the southerly aspect. The opportunity to enjoy wildlife is unlimited from here with views as far as the eye can see across farmland and the Berkshire Downs.
