During the 1950s BMW utilized a split sales strategy of selling top-of-the-market products (such as the ultra- expensive BMW 507) alongside economy class transport (see the and BMW 700) while mostly ignoring the wide middle of the market. This approach was less than successful, and ultimately was abandoned in the early 1960s. The company instead began to focus on the mainstream appeal, only with a bias towards luxury and sportiness that they had earlier developed. This shift was embodied by the “New Class” 2000CS , which debuted in 1965 with a two-liter four-cylinder mill and a rather funny face.

In response to critics, a new “New Six CS” was appeared in 1968 with a longer nose and a truly beautiful front-end treatment that became the BMW standard for many years. At the same time a 2.8-liter, 170-hp six replaced the old four.

The stated kerb weight is 1290 kg. Maximum quoted speed is 200 km/h, or 124 mph.

BMW made the Isetta its own. They redesigned the powerplant around a BMW one-cylinder, four-stroke, 247 cc motorcycle engine which generated 9 kW (12 hp). Although the major elements of the Italian design remained intact, BMW re-engineered much of the car, so much so that none of the parts between a BMW Isetta Moto Coupe and an Isetta are interchangeable. The first BMW Isetta appeared in April 1955.

Today, the BMW Isetta is a highly coveted vintage car that would probably be classified as a micro mobility vehicle now. But back in its day, the Isetta was a complete car. The little car from Munich combines a clever concept with understated charm. How it came to be is an interesting story that proves the old adage that necessity is indeed the mother of invention.

BMW was on the brink of bankruptcy in the mid-1950. Motorcycle production was declining. BMW vehicles like

BMW needed a new model – one that would not require a lot of development costs. BMW found its solution at the 1954 Turin Car Show. At the Iso Rivolta booth, an Italian maker of refrigerators and cars, there was a three- wheeled car with a huge door (which looked surprisingly similar to a refrigerator door) in the front. It was called the Iso Isetta. The BMW delegation acquired the licensing rights for the Isetta and for the production equipment as well.

The Mercedes Adenuer has not been restored and is in its original condition.

The 300 'd' model, series W189, was produced from August of 1957 and continued until March of 1962. There were a total of 3077 examples produced. The cars were powered by a Bosch fuel-injected six-cylinder engine that produced an impressive 160 horsepower. The Borg-Warner automatic gearbox was a popular option. All cars that were sent to the US were given the automatic gearbox.

Total production of the six different 300 series cars, which lasted from 1951 through 1962, totaled 12,290 units.

LATANABID DOOEL | 15-Korpus 2, 1000 Skopje, Macedonia | 4043020528252 | www.auctim.com 4 A limited number of the 300 Series and cabriolet models were given the name 'Adenauer', which was derived from Dr. Konrad Adenauer, the chancellor of Germany. He used six of these 300 models during his time in office.

The Mercedes-Benz W189 model 300 was a four-door luxury tourer produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1957 and 1962. It was the company's flagship model at the time, equivalent to the modern S-Class and Maybach.

Even more exclusive were four individual cars, which were built in 1960 on the basis of the 300 d. Three of them, Pullman limousine and two Pullman landaulets were built on an elongated chassis with a wheelbase of 3600 mm and with a higher roof. One of the two landaulets were fitted with a single armchair in the rear as an extra feature for and delivered to Pope John XXIII in December 1960. The second landaulet and the Pullman limousine remained in the factory as representation cars to be rented out to the government or other wealthy parties for special events.
