WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17 THURSDAY, APRIL 18 FRIDAY, APRIL 19 SATURDAY, APRIL 20 MONDAY, APRIL 22 Washington at BYU Washington at Utah Washington at Utah Washington at Utah Washington at Utah Valley 5:00 PM PT 5:00 PM PT 5:00 PM PT 11:00 AM PT 10:00 AM PT Provo, Utah Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake City, Utah Orem, Utah TV: BYUTV TV: Pac-12 Networks TV: Pac-12 Networks TV: Pac-12 Networks TV: WAC Network SHORTSTOP, BIG BAT Sis Bates needs just seven more hits to become the 22nd Husky ever with 200 hits in their career. Only one active player in the Pac-12, Lindsey Rood of Cal, has 200 hits in their career. Bates has now recorded 50+ hits in each of her first three seasons and this year is one of four Pac-12 players hitting .400 or better (min. 125 ABs). Bates needs ten more hits to move into Washington’s top 20. AUSTRALIAN FOR WIN Gabbie Plain is three wins away from 40 in her career. If she reaches that mark in her next ten appear- ances, she would be the second-fastest Husky in history to 40 career wins, bested only by Tia Bollinger (51 games). Plain was earned the win in over 70% of her games started. She is currently on a nine-game undefeated streak: one more appearance without a loss would be Plain’s third career streak of ten or more appearances without a loss. MORGANNE CANNE RAKE With three more home runs last weekend, Morganne Flores set a new career high, reaching the 15-homer mark for the first time in her career. Flores leads the conference with nine home runs in Pac-12 play and is one of only two players outside the Arizona schools to double-digits overall on the season already. Flores is the 12th Husky ever with a 15+ homer year: eight of those 12 have gone on to earn All-American honors. LEADING THE PAC In addition to Morganne Flores leading the Pac-12 in conference play home runs, Washington also has the conference’s leading hitter in Sis Bates. Bates has hit an even .500 in Pac-12 play, with 24 hits in 15 games. Washington’s duo of Gabbie Plain and Taran Alvelo in the circle are first and second in the Pac-12 in as well. Plain has 72 punchouts in Pac-12 play while Alvelo has 61: only one other Pac-12 pitcher has struck out 50 batters. EIGHT IS GREAT Taran Alvelo is 11 strikeouts away from reaching the 800 mark in her career. That has only been accom- plished by three other pitchers in Washington history: Danielle Lawrie, Jennifer Spediacci, and Ashley Boek. Alvelo would be the fourth active pitcher to reach 800 strikeouts as well. One more win for Alvelo would give her 95, tying her with Tia Bollinger for third in Husky history. EXPLANATION OPS+: On-base percentage plus slugging percentage that is then standardized to a 100 scale, with 100 being league average and each point above or below being one percentage point better or worse. wOBA: Similar to batting average, this stat weighs each type of hit (single, double, triple, home run) or un- intentional walk with how rare they are and how much they increase win percentage. This stat is based on a similar scale to on-base percentage: a wOBA over .350 translates similarly to how tough it is to have an on-base percentage of .350. wRC: This stat shows how many runs an individual player was worth for their team: by combining a number of offensive statistics and comparing it to the league norm, this comes up with a single number that shows a batter’s overall production in terms of runs created for the team. wRC+: Similar to wRC, but standardized to a 100 scale, so that 100 is league average and each point above or below being one percentage point better or worse. FIP: Fielding independent pitching. This statistic measures only those outcomes directly controllable by a pitcher (home runs, walks, HBP, and strikeouts) and standardizes it to a similar scale as ERA, meaning that a 2.50 FIP would illustrate that a pitcher has performed roughly to the ability of a 2.50-ERA pitcher when excluding the defense’s contributions. ERA+: This statistics standardizes a pitcher’s ERA to 100, with 100 being league average and each point above or below being on percentage point better or worse. This only takes ERA into account. K%: The percentage of plate appearances ending in a . BB%: The percentage of plate appearances ending in a walk.
