v AMission Quarterly Community Relations Report Possible FALL 2018

Since our beginnings in 1961, Mission Fed has been dedicated to strengthening and improving the communities in which we live, work and play. Through partnerships with schools and over 200 nonprofit organizations directly committed to a healthier, stronger, vibrant and resilient County, we’re on a mission to ensure that San Diego’s success is our bottom line. We hope you take pride in reading about our collaborative achievements and learn more about how we came together to drive positive transformation throughout the San Diego community.

Hidden Treasures for the Community This past June, Mission Fed was excited to debut Mission Hearts in the Community, a campaign that solidifies Mission Fed’s dedication to giving back to local nonprofits and schools. On the last Friday of the San Diego County Fair’s School Staff Appreciation Days, multiple “Mission Fed Hearts” were hidden throughout the fairgrounds, each heart worth a $100 donation to any San Diego County-based nonprofit or school to be designated by the lucky person who found a heart. Six lucky winners designated proceeds to the following schools and nonprofits: Kavod Charter School, Miramar Ranch Elementary School (x2), The Seany Foundation, Wind and Sea Surf Club and Maryland Elementary School. Be on the lookout for “Mission Fed Hearts in the Community” later this year. Caption to come

Investing in Students’ Futures Our community is fortunate to have organizations that make measureable impacts on the next generation of San Diego’s leaders. One example is Junior Achievement of San Diego County (JA), an organization that teaches kids how to get a job, start a business and manage money. Recently, Mission Fed partnered with JA to pilot a new initiative: “JA Way to Save.” The pilot program encourages Mission Fed JA Finance Park graduates to continue their journey of making smart financial choices and successfully managing their money by opening a Savings or Checking Account. Thanks to Mission Fed’s financial support generated from this pilot Mission Fed’s Sherry Special, SVP Consumer Lending and Branch Network and Angie Lasagna, VP Community Relations and External Affairs, program, over 115 students will be able to take advantage of bottom row, join JA students. experiencing JA’s life-changing programs.

Children’s Well-Being through the Summer Although summer should be a fun, carefree and exciting time for all kids, for too many San Diego children, the end of the school year can sadly also mean hunger. To help ensure that children do not have to worry about their next summer meal, Mission Fed served as a sponsor of the San Diego Unified School District’s “Summer Fun Café” meal program and marked its kickoff with a BBQ event at Skyline Hills Park & Rec in Southeast San Diego. The Summer Fun Café bridges the summer hunger gap and lets our students know that the community cares about their well-being by providing fresh, tasty lunches and snacks for children. From June through August, 58 locations throughout San Diego County operated Summer Fun Cafés, where parents and guardians also ate for free thanks to Mission Fed’s support. A well-nourished San Diego child is a happier and healthier child.

It’s these Mission Fed Moments which remind us that “your success is our bottom line” is not just a tagline, but a daily goal. One Mission Fed Moment comes to us from the Linda Vista Branch Manager Ognjen “Ogy” Mustur. Two years ago while participating in the Mission 2 $AVE program, Matty met Ogy and his Linda Vista Branch Team. At that time, Matty was in transitional kindergarten at Bay Park Elementary. Since then, Matty and his grandmother became friends with the branch staff and stop by to provide updates on Matty’s entrepreneurial spirit. Matty recently started his own business creating tie-dye T-shirts and as a token of appreciation, he gave his first to Ogy! On behalf of Ogy, his team and over 540 team members, Mission Fed applauds Matty and his grandmother’s efforts and thanks them for the heartwarming gift. FALL 2018
