SLC’s BEST PRACTICES OF THE ACDAMEIC YEAR 2018-19

BEST PRACTICE NO. 1 1 Title - Moot Court Society - Fresher’s ,Inter, Intra & National Moot Court Competitions 2. Objectives - To strengthen / enhance the mooting skills. Moot Court competitions have become an essential feature of Law colleges. Moot Court Competitions groom the students by developing their argumenting, lawyering, analyzing as well as communication skills. It also teaches the students about court room manners and etiquettes which they as future lawyers will have to observe. Recognizing the importance of mooting SLC established a Moot Court Society. Since 2015 State /National Level Moot Court Competitions have been conducted every year. 3. Context –College’s Moot Court Society has been organizing Fresher’s Intra, Inter & National Moot Court Competitions for shaping professional skills. 4. Practice: A body of students formed by conducting election. A society and Faculty member conduct the said event and encourages the students for maximum participation. Every faculty member allocates a case as well the sides to the students who are interested in participating in this activity. On a scheduled day and time these students present the said case before the concerned faculty. Needed guidance and assistance is given by the faculty members. This activity inculcates a habit of reading judgments and doing research among the students. It also develops their debating, communication and analyzing skills. The members of the society arranges practice and oral round and rehearsal of the students who are participating in outside competition before the staff and students to make any changes required by taking the feedback from the audience. SLC Moot Society also holds weekly moot competition on regular basis throughout the academic year wherein the junior students are guided by the seniors on various aspects of mooting through the use of research, legal reading, drafting, writing memorandum, interpretation, case studies, etc. Apart from this society tries to identify the students who never participated in moot competition and trains them to participate in the competitions which are held outside the college. For the smooth functioning of the society office bearers conducts regular meetings to discuss the activities and any other issues of the society 5. Evidence of Success: This Society conducted three National and One State Level Moot Court Competition since its inception. During 2018 -19 two Intra-College Moot Competitions, One Fresher’s Moot Court Competition and One National Moot Court Competitions were held in the

Academic year 2018-19. Upon inception of the society, the organization of these events was taken over by a student body under the aegis of the staff, rather than the entire event being a staff organized endeavor. 6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required: – Due to delayed CET Admission fresher’s are unable to participate in the Intra Moot court competition and also it becomes difficult for the students to participate in outside moot court competitions as the semester is short and they are new. But, the problem was solved by conducting different competitions for First Year students. For most of the competitions, faculty members only were made judges and therefore no additional resources were required.

BEST PRACTICE NO. 2 1.Title of the practice: Maitri & Green Club 2. Objectives: To enable the students to understand their responsibilities towards the Society. 3. Context: Maitri & Green Club involve students in community Services like Cloth & Food Distribution, Flood and Drought Relief Activities, Blood Donation, Health Check Up, Tree Plantation, Legal Literacy Camps at Villages etc. 4. Practice: Under the aegis of Green Club, tree plantation drive was conducted on 25th January 2018 by the college at Kadkwasla. The college has chosen a plot at Kadkwasla where people are resided on that plot so that plants could be taken care by providing water and manure for its proper growth. Maitri Social Club organized Free Health Checkup Camp along with the Legal Aid Camp on Saturday 9th March 2019 at Salawade Village Taluk, . This camp was organized in Association with Sri Satya Organization Pune and Sinhgad Dental College Pune. There were 76 patients for general Health checkup and 96 for Dental Check up. After the Health Check up there was a speech on Substance abuse by Prof. Vishal Naikare who explained the effect of substance abuse and how to get rid of this addiction in detail where we wanted our students to realize the impact of Alcohol and Smoking. A guest lecture was organized to address the students on importance of Social Service by Mr.Bhudha Bhirade , Incharge of SARVESAHAM on 8th January , 2019. Through this session, the students were made aware of the working of SARVESHAM and various activities which can be conducted in collaboration. Clohtes, Stationary and Packed foods were distributed to the girls by Sinhgad College at Sarvesham and Kadkwasla Slum. Student’s birthdays were also Celebrated at Sarvesham by distributing snacks to girls. Felicitation programme of Social Worker and Aluminus Mr. Sachin Subash – Pad Man of Pune was conducted on 8th January 2019 for his outstanding contribution in creating awareness among the importance of Menstrual Hygiene. Maitri Club also conducts National festivals, Birth and Death Anniversaries in the college to promote Patriotism. A Research Workshop was conducted on the topic of “Let’s close the Internet Gender Gap” on Friday 8 th March 2019 on the occasion of International Women’s Day in Association with Consulate General of Sweden. For this event students came with their Laptops with an account created in Wiki along with lot of home work done in advance to upload the materials on Wiki as guided during the workshop Trainer Mr. Suresh Khole a Free Lance trainer for NGO, MNC, F.A.T Delhi, UNFPA India conducted this workshop for three hours in Open Source, Wikipedia,

Collaborative writing, Five pillars of wiki Account creation, creation of user-page, Basics of editing Wikipedia, Creating Draft, Article, referencing etc. 5. Evidence of Success: In short span of the inception of these Clubs we were able to organize many programmes in association with NGOs.

6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required: We were unable to serve more for local community due to the semester pattern and other college Activities.
