Local History Grants Program The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is encouraging local community organisations to put their hand up for a share in $350,000 of state funding, available for projects that preserve and share stories of local history. The Local History Grants Program, which is managed by the Public Record Office Victoria, is currently accepting grant applications for up to $15,000. Mr O’Brien said the grants were a great opportunity for local historical groups to inject some much-needed funding into their crucial projects. “Local history is invaluable to our community and our local organisations do a great job of collecting and sharing our stories,” Mr O’Brien said. “$15,000 can go a long way towards preserving our history and I’m strongly encouraging our local groups to get their applications in so our stories can be heard.” Examples of projects funded in previous rounds include making local history accessible through online virtual tours, walking apps, e-books, online digitisation projects and oral histories. The Public Records Office encourages community groups considering an upcoming history or anniversary project – from sports clubs to schools and historical societies – to apply for a grant of up to $15,000 as part of the Local History Grants Program.
